Edit: So they had the guy on TV. They said they were doing this, but it wasn't a 12 pack, it was a couple bottles in there, because that was the max they could carry. After that video spread, they were contacted by the FAA and told they were in violation of the rules, and to stop.

Well today I went looking, and couldn't find it anywhere, until I checked the road. I moved the vehicles out of the drive way to allow the plow to come into the driveway. Well between the snow, salt, getting ran over a few times, probably plowed over. I think it's safe to say my phone is toast.

Then I learn that insurance is as good as useless with a $100 deductible. My phone is over 2 years old, and the best they can offer me is a remanufactured phone (same model). I can get the same phone on ebay for the same price, without paying for an insurance policy. So $5.18/mo x 27 months = $140 down the drain. They should really reduce your deductible the longer you go (due to the phone getting older and cheaper). I'm cancelling my insurance plan tomorrow. Screw Verizon and Asurion.

Cell phone industry survives around ripping people off. The insurance is just the tip of it. Text messages and data are another example of that. Text messages literally cost them nothing to send, but for years they charged extra for it because people didn't know any better. Once people started using texting more than talking, carriers started offering free texting as a business move. Made it look like they were giving something up, but cost them next to nothing.

You compare prices here to prices abroad, and it's a crazy difference. US carriers charge 30% (or more) for the same features as you get from the major carriers in Europe or Asia.

At the end of the day, that whole industry screws people at every chance they get, and most US Consumers have no idea what cell service is like is the rest of the first world.

Well, from folks I know abroad: 60 bucks for a smart phone with 3gb of data and unlimited data and texting that has service pretty much everywhere...Sounds sexy. There was a carrier I recall offered 20gb of data plus unlimited calling and texts on a Galaxy S4 with a 2 year contract for like 95 a month and the Galaxy would cost just 35...

Japan I think has a carrier that has voice only service for like 10 bucks a month for around 500 minutes.

Something to bear in mind though is that each cell tower can only support so many people, so there is kind of a trade off there. You go someplace that only gets massive population spikes periodically (like say for a sporting event or something) and occasionally service becomes spotty because the infrastructure isn't there to support that many people making phone calls or using data. This was especially true when smart phones first exploded. Of course, IIRC all European carriers use the same band for their cell phones, so service is much better there anyhow than it is here and they all kind of share the costs of increasing infrastructure. Compare that to the US with CDMA and GSM coverage, it increases the costs since each group has to build their own shit. 4g theoretically may help there, but for now voice doesn't operate over 4g (because carriers don't want it to.)

I do agree that population per tower should be a factor in costs, but no matter how you slice it, the costs are jacked up over what they should be because of the lack of competition. The major carriers have effectively monopolized smaller areas because the cost for a competitor to build there are high for little chance of converting people over, and the major areas everyone has towers. This lets them charge whatever they want more or less, people in the monopolized areas don't have a choice, and people in the major areas don't see much of a difference due to the carriers costing roughly the same. You do have T-mobile, Cricket, Boost, etc. which offer cheaper rates, unsure of service quality or anything else, although I believe that they piggyback off of the major networks so shouldn't be too bad. In truth, I stick with Verizon because it got service at my folks place in NY, my sisters place in KY, my grandmothers in TN and at school. No other carrier had service at every location.

Yeah, I honestly just stick with an old shitty basic phone. Unlimited texting and calls, runs me like 30-40 a month I think. Looked into going back to a Blackberry, but it's another 30 bucks just to have a smartphone. Fuck that.

The only reason I stick with verizon right now is that I travel frequently, and I use my unlimited Verizon LTE to tether with. I was amazed that I could get the Moto X Dev phone for $379 off contract (same price as the standard Moto X 32gb). It is a 7-8 month old phone, but likely the best unlockable phones verizon has right now. With it unlocked, I can easily tether.

I've come up with a new theory on gender. I still believe that men and women excel in different areas, due to biological reasons. But I've come to think the reason that it's so easy to humorize is because most of the things that men are biologically wired to do better at--are tangible things that directly impact measurable performance (everything from spatial awareness to driving ability).

Women, on the other hand, are gifted with different skills. The problem is, those skills give them "richer" qualities in areas like emotions--not in areas that actually contribute to the "classic" definition of what yields success.

This explains why women add unnecessary levels of complexity to social interactions, because that's where god gave them extra points, rather than, say, the ability to finish braking before entering a turn. In the context of what was actually lost, I agree.... The 62 was sad to see down there, but probably replaceable. I do expect it would not be easy to replace many of them as they were on loan from GM, and were basically brand new cars.

There is stuff in that museum that is truly irreplaceable, even if not that desirable to most... The only remaining 83 model in existence almost landed down there, but they were able to save it.

The black ZR1 Spyder would have value simply because it is a one off item, although the fact that it would never be able to be registered due to the VIN number means that it's limited to a collectible piece. Still, obviously super rare even if it can't be registered. That 62 can probably be recovered though. I'd say that the Mallet Hammer one probably has quite a bit of value. And I would guess that the Blue Devil ZR1 would as well as a collectible, although it is a modified version of the previous platform, not a true ZR1.

I believe the only two owned by GM were the ZR1s, think the Museum owned the others.
