According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Angela Kipp, 35, of Syracuse was in the car with her 9-year-old son, who was in the back seat. As she backed out of her driveway, she saw the spider and panicked, then jumped from the car, police said. Her son reportedly moved into the front seat and tried to stop the vehicle, but he accidentally hit the gas pedal and sent the car careening into a school bus.

The boy was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, police said. The bus driver was not hurt, and no passengers were on board.

Social media in itself is demotivating. I do not have a Facebook account, not because I am scared of having my identity stolen and the terrorists will come get me, but because the site is retarded and serves no purpose in life. I did make an account one time, but it was only to "e-stalk" a chick who was coming to buy some parts off me. I looked around the site for 5 minutes, shook my head in disbelief that people actually can't do without it, and deleted my account. This was probably about 6 years ago when I did it, and the place only has gotten worse.

Today I spent some time doing job searches online. I searched an old colleague of mine hoping to find her contact info to see if she knew of any openings at her current place of employment. I had found her LinkedIN profile previously so I was hoping I could find a way to contact her there. Long story short I couldn't find anything so I thought, what the hell, I'll make a profile to see what I can find, and maybe even do some job searches. Well, after I made a basic profile, and skipped a bunch of unnecessary steps I go to send her a message, only to find out I have to be a "premium member" to send messages. WTF kind of shit is that?

Then I decide to search some jobs and there is so much garbage to sort through its not even worth it. I put in certain keywords in the search and it gave me results no where near the results I was looking for, not to mention there are job listings over 6 months old.

To finish this up, I deleted yet another social media profile due to being bloated unuseful garbage.

Social media is an institution that has made people stupid, inescapably caged to their phones, and worse. As I've explained numerous times to my coworkers, as soon as I have an account, I'm going to get pegged with questions about why I haven't friended so-and-so. And once I do that, I'm expected to keep up with their social media feeds. And if I keep up with one person's--and not everyone's--someone will undoubtedly get butthurt.

I heard the big hubbub about common core, so I decided to take a look. To my amazement I saw parts of the system I have used to do mental math in my head for 25+ years. But, it's not for everyone.

The biggest problem with our education system is forcing everyone to the middle. I don't know how to stress this enough, college isn't for everyone, and telling people they have to get a degree or they are a loser is a crime. I know lots of people making 6 figures with no college at all. I also know lots of people with a $50,000 degree that makes them $35,000 a year.

We need to not be afraid to stratify students based on ability, and set them up to be successful. If little jimmy hates math and English, but is great with his hands, expose him to different trades and see what he likes.

And we now reap the benefits as evidenced by teachers like the one above. So it is already readily apparent that the quality of the labor force is sub-standard to what is needed. Then you add in unchecked immigration...which usually starts on the minimum-wage side of the employment scale...and you have a recipe for economic ruin; a MASSIVE glut of unqualified, unskilled labor...and an abject dearth of WELL educated & master tradesman labor pool. And that's one of the reasons why "free college for everyone" won't work in this country. It works in countries where the idiots are weeded out of higher education prior to grade 13. Since we've lowered the standards to where a mental quadriplegic can hurdle them, there's simply no way we can afford (on the government dime) to put that number of students through 4 years of undergraduate scholastics.

I see the problem slightly differently................it's not that we can't afford 4 years of undergraduate scholastics to all students on the government dime.........it's that we MUST afford to put ALL of them through 4 years of college. You are absolutely correct that changing from weeding out to total promotion, we put ourselves in the full monte mode because the only way we can create the educated class we must have is to educate everyone through 4 years of undergraduate classes; in other words, we have to push everyone through college to guarantee we get all the qualified students through the education they need and we need them to have. So, instead of using K1 through grade 12 to winnow the college appropriate students out, we have to use grades 13 through 16 to do the job. And we end up with an additional class of college degreed blithering idiots. And who said we weren't changing the fabric of our culture????

I'm pretty sure it's been only within my own lifetime that the quality of education in the USA--compared to the rest of the world--has declined to the point where we are no longer churning out top-notch employees. As long as the USA was at the top end on education, there was always a sound hope of economic prosperity from home-grown ingenuity. Since that edge has been lost, we now face the very-real prospect that we cannot offer any more innovation--in amounts sufficient to drive our economy. And everything else stems from this & will go downhill from there.

The main issue with our secondary education system is that it offers worthless sheets of paper to people that in any other time would be operating a shovel, or pickax so they can feel educated.

Those are outlier programs. The majority of undergraduate education in the USA--today--is utter rubbish. If it weren't the case, then those with degrees would not be finding it so difficult to find appropriate work. At the point at which so many people are able to achieve a 4 year college degree, the meaning of this achievement is tepid. 50-60 years ago, a 4 year degree REALLY meant something in the working world. It's not that people have gotten that much smarter. It's the standards that were abolished on the altar of giving everyone a participant trophy.

My sis-in-law is the type type of person to download games and not pay attention to the extra crap it wants to install with it.

Final count ended up being 2895 objects detected. I also did a disk cleanup and system cleanup and got rid of 13GB of crap.

I only plan on using the laptop til I get everything purchased for a new pc. Then I'll probably give it back to my brother for the kids to use. I've probably still got another hour or so to put into it until I can have it usable for me.

My girlfriend's old Dell laptop crapped out a few months ago... Had a problem on the motherboard that wouldn't let it charge. I found a used board on ebay for $25. I was going to scrap it until I realized how cheap I could put it back together....

It really depends on the laptop. It's just that the cost on them has gone down so much--and because of parts scarcity on some older models--it may make more sense to just scrap it. I'm not saying NOT look into it...but be prepared for the nuclear option.
