It's $60 for the kit, another $40.00 for the cleaning solution (eats rust & almost any other coatings off), $40 for a gallon or ~$12 for an aerosol of Pre Painting Prep, and then I'd recommend using their bare metal clear over the freshly plated part (~$12 per can).

So to do it with results that should turn out well & hold up well over the years, probably expect to pay around the $130-160 range depending on what size Pre you end up going with.

    Here's my most recent restoration:

A 6" strip placed in the middle of the door horizontally, would help that tremendously. Also how is the bond between the brace in there? If that has aged, then the outer door skin will rattle against it and that is annoying.

you can use ABS plastic or plastic cutting boards to cut panels to seal off those holes in the door. You get need to get creative around the wire loom and door linkage.

You are on the right track about the Velcro and rubber idea. To say me typing I give you this link:

    sounddeadenershowdown

A boatload of info in there, I have his product but have not done my doors yet, just the hatch area.

Curious about the rubber spray? you didn't plug your drain holes at the bottom of the door did you?

I've looked at that site before. Most of it was a little advanced for me, but I do want to learn some more and try some of those things.
I just did the passenger side so it matches the driver side at this point. It's not perfect, but at least it's consistent
Also wanted to cover up all the old sticky tar from the old oem plastic.
Rubber spray was a pretty light coat just to help a little with dampening. Was only $3 for a can, which covered both doors. I'm sure some of it got on the drains, but I tried to go lighter there. Easy to poke it back through later anyway.

I feel like I've been gone forever while I was playing on the mountain for a week. I come back and the forum has changed a little. Lol.

Today I took my car out for a spin since my best friend was in town from work. I had to jump start the car since the battery died after sitting for a few weeks. I really need to relocate it to the back to fit the proper size replacement I have. Anyways, my friend said he saw a puff of smoke from the front of the engine during a pull and now my car doesn't hardly build boost. I think the front turbo may have popped but I'm not 100% sure. I really don't have time to look into it so it'll probably sit for a few weeks before I pressure test, diagnose, disassemble, and figure out what is going on.

No idea really. I thought at first the loss of power was my motor going out. I pulled over to the side of the road, checked the dipstick thinking maybe it blew out but it hadn't, and visually didn't see any blown couplers. The engine wasn't knocking or anything either. I could hear a little noise when the turbo tried building boost. It was almost like a very faint ticking. It's hard to describe. I'm hoping it's something simple like a severe leak but will be prepared in case the front turbo blew seals or something. The car isn't smoking and I can't tell if there was any new oil since the dipstick blew out over a month ago and I didn't get everything degreased squeaky clean. All I know right now is it struggles to make a few psi at 5k rpms when it started making boost at 2200 rpms.

I have a couple thousand miles on the turbos. They're all mostly hard miles though. Less than half was cruising I'm sure. I hit 28.4 psi when it happened. I'd like to dig into it before March but may not have any time to since I'll be swamped with work on the weekends making up some time. If it's serious enough I'll probably take the down time to do the 5-speed swap. It sucks being too busy at the moment.

I highly doubt its the turbo itself, and hope I am right.

Yesterday I put the headlights back in and drove around the driveway a little to check out the trans I put in. So far so good. Sat in one spot idleing for ~20 minutes and not a single drop off fluids of any kind on the snow, that makes me very happy.

Those look good. I need to do some of that. What plating did you use and where did you order/buy from?

It might be on the other site where I saw it but people are sending buckets of bolts out for zinc plating at around $45 a pound.
