What did you do today to your 3/S?

No 3s work, but I've been doing some work on a Nissan vq35 for another venture.

Previous owner abused the car and the bucket shims got smashed(making it tick like crazy.)

Two interesting things about the vq engine:

It uses a lifter and bucket shim setup which is very very good for high rpm fun.

The later vq"hr" has dlc(diamond like carbon) coated bucket shims, which is claimed to lower friction by 40%.

Destroyed lifters(the stem in the middle should be flat)

Are they good cars? I was thinking about looking into 370z's.

I've been building my car a new home this summer. It's going to be so nice, but I'm going to be so broke.

I shudder to think what that will cost. I've been house hunting for a while trying to find a decent house with enough acreage to build my own garage..

Around $60k and I will still need to purchase and install insulation, buy and install siding, buy and install garage doors and run plumbing/electrical/natural gas. But I spend probably 80% of my time in the garage when I'm home and not sleeping so it's worth it to me. Vermont is expensive too in terms of real estate purchases and taxes. I pay $3600 a year (soon to go up) in taxes on my house. Just a 2 bedroom raised ranch on 1.85 acres. It went up $400 last year for no reason. My dad is thinking of retiring out of state because Vermont is one of the few states that will tax his military pensions. We have a saying around Vermont that our biggest export is our children because of the cost of living. I'm sure there are places where it is worse. But there are definitely places where it is better (like Texas).

Wow. I was contemplating just going a metal storage building kind of deal on a concrete pad and put a small insulated and climate controlled "clean room" and bathroom attached to it. Cheaper here for sure though. Think the entirety of the shop at Ninja came out to around 40k, but big enough to fit two lifts and probably more than 12 cars if so desired. Not insulated though and we ran our own electric and water for it

Be careful where you're looking for land. I bought my house with an acre of land so that I could build a pole barn. I was thinking like 30x40 (1200sq/ft). Turns out there's a city ordinance that limits accessory buildings to 720sq/ft. I'd have to go through a bunch of paperwork with the city and involve my neighbors to build the size I want. Meanwhile a coworker put up a 30x40 barn on his land the next town over with no issues. Combine that with the dirt road I live on, I'd just rather move. This house is so cheap though lol.

Our town is pretty relaxed as far as permits. Building can't be within 20' of side/rear property line. Has to be beyond 70' of from center of any road frontage. And the building can't be above 35' tall. It cost me a $70 zoning permit. I had to put a paper in my window for 2 weeks. After that if no one investigates into what I'm building, then no one can complain.

My cement pad with 4' frost walls was $23k. The trusses with a 64x18x8 storage space above were $9500. Shingles/lumber/windows/doors are around $16k. Then $13k in building labor to frame it, install the windows, roof, house wrap etc.. We also do have building codes for snow loads etc.. So I can imagine living down south where you didn't need to cement a frost wall, or insulate, or have trusses engineered to hold a few feet of snow; it would be a lot cheaper. At least we don't have to deal with snakes and alligators up here!

I've been looking into G37's. The only issue I've seen with the VQ's is prior to the 2012 models some had an issue with the a timing gasket that could cause issues, and eventual engine failure if not monitored. 2012 models started coming with an updated metal gasket and it seems to no longer be an issue.

I started from scratch, flashed in the new tune and went for a drive. It seems to drive quite a bit better. I still randomly get some knock but my fuel trims are going back to normal. Don't know if I trust this knock sensor though, it was just one I had laying around. I think I'll order a new one just to be sure.

The 20Ts aren't laggy, but they don't have the punch that 9bs have. They hold boost to redline though, so that's nice. Only running 10psi and it pulls pretty hard, can't wait to turn it up.
