Finally, after a long six month wait, I now have my GTO out of the back yard!![]()
Determined that the piston rings are the definite cause of the smoking in the new one. Tomorrow I'm gonna take pics of all the stuff I'm gonna sell to raise the funds to re-ring it. I think it's gonna be a fun project though, I have never gone that far into the engine and I'm honestly looking forward to it.
Did timing belt/water pump, put back on cover, waiting on new crank pulley to button up driver's side. Tonight =hopefully finish wiring, make more fuel lines.
Well I had a leakdown test done previously and the results were not good, then I unhooked all the PCV valves so there was no vacuum on the crankcase and let it idle and it smoked like crazy. Now I'm just wondering what the likelihood is that I'll need to get the turbos rebuilt too.
No they sound and boost good. Haven't checked for shaft play yet. So what is the opinion here about breaking in/seating the new piston rings? Run it hard?
