The way I see it was they had to pass to save their one time out. If they ran and didnt get in however unlikely that was, they would need to burn their last time out with under 20 seconds left. Only enough time to get off one more play. By passing it was either a TD or an incompletion one ends the game, the other stops the clock and saves you your one time out for 2 plays.

So if they ran the ball on 2nd down and didnt get in. TO. Run the ball again and dont get in, they cant stop the clock and they lose. Lynch was 1 for 5 from the line on the season. The smart play was to pass on 2nd down saving your TO for the one or two run plays to follow since only a TD would stop the clock.

The defensive player made a better play, just like Harrison on the Steelers jumped that route against the cards a few years back and ran it back for a TD before half time.

So thats my two cents. It was actually the smart play just the defensive guy was more ready for it than the Hawks player was.

That pass was a touchdown against most defenses. The Patriots practiced and prepared for that exact play. They recognized the offensive formation, had a pretty good idea what the play would be and made a great play on the ball. We will never know what would have happened if they decided to run. Could have been a touchdown, a stop, a fumble or backed up.

Great read by the Pats, but the pass was significantly late also. Wilson puts that ball to the receiver when he turns to look for it, aka when he's protected by the inside receiver pick/screen, and it's probably a TD. Would've, could've, should've...

    Zackly.

As I pointed out earlier, the defender (can't remember his name) who totally nullified Kearse's attempted pick not only kept Kearse from physically re-directing Butler's defensive effort, he left him a visual alley directly to Wilson's eyes; Butler's angle of attack wasn't an angle at all, it was a straight line, which allowed him to assume position on the ball without risking an interference call.

The key to the play was Kearse getting jammed, though - if Butler had even leaned inside, he couldn't have gotten to the ball in time to pick it, although he may have caused an incompletion.
Ranked No. #1 in initial quality

Idiots, simply by being idiots, seem capable of achieving randomly bad things that are beyond the imaginings of sensible people.

Yeah, it's almost as if they knew exactly what was coming... like they had seen video of the Seahawks practice and knew they would be running that play.
