It's because rugby players are hardasses and pro footballers here are pussies by comparison.

All of the elaborate protection and regimentation is viewed as wimpy.

And it's true, especially given the sissification (via rule-changes) of American football recently.
Ranked No. #1 in initial quality

Idiots, simply by being idiots, seem capable of achieving randomly bad things that are beyond the imaginings of sensible people.

They are not similar. A play doesn't end when the ball hits the ground (you let go if you get tackled or you're gonna get a boot on your hand to give up possession) A scrum is nothing like a line of scrimmage. Forward passes are not allowed. And if you do get tackled, you better pray you're support can hold their own in the ruck until a team member can pick up the ball. The list goes on.

^^A more reasonable explanation, one I feel you'd likely get from a foreigner.

The two sports look more familiar than they are, for sure.

I will be sure to wear my Richard Sherman and Kam Chancellor jerseys to NG next year to piss everyone off. Geez, so much hate for a good team with good guys. I watch every press conference and locker room interview and cant understand the hate.

I think with Sherman it's the attitude and conviction of greatness, whether it's true or not. Very VERY few athletes have been able to crown themselves as GOAT while still playing and not be hated. Throw in his manner of speaking, and Seattle's rough and tumble gameplay on defense (especially in an era of neutered defenses) and he looks like a thug to most. Whether it's right or wrong, is a totally different deal.

If this is true, how come no rugby players except punters have been able to play in the NFL?

different style of play. i'd also venture that rugby players have less concussions and less lifelong debilitating head injuries...due to the amount of padding they wear. rugby has a LOT more in common with 1960's/early 70's football than it does to modern football.

I would venture to say that a bigger %age of NFL players could spend a year learning Rugby and make a pro team than Rugby players learning American football for a year and making a team.

    Hmm.

    Perhaps because they're too smart?

    Not smart enough?

    Maybe insufficiently capitalistic?

    Maybe they're rugby snobs?

    Any/all of the above?

    Hell, maybe they're the sissies.

I think we're gonna get told, one way or another...
