People are cavemen, no matter our pretense of civilization.

Every deviation from universal acclamation in debates like this indicates it, and there is no sense whatsoever denying it.

We constantly bicker amongst ourselves over the need to to be civilized, yet by-and-large we pull it off here in the "west".

But yes, our basest inclinations are recklessly vengeful.

Then acknowledge that it is true for yourself, but also that you are managing to control your urge.

I never said I was better, more educated, or superior in any way. I would obviously be enraged if someone hurt the ones I love. But there is a matter of right and wrong and I wouldn't do such horrid acts in the name of revenge.

Problem is, the 1st Amendment doesn't include any language about possible reactions to it's exercise.

Consider the reaction a sort of usage tax on your 1st Amendment right.
