I tried to measure the height of my bracket and see if it was taller than the upper part of the 5 speed but I'm having trouble getting in there without taking everything apart.

Hey I just stumbled past my GNCR, for my future conversion & it is low mile, untampered with & it's just the single bracket-

Ok guys well this corrected my difficulty with shifting. Made a huge difference. Shifting is silky smooth now. Here are some pictures to show the difference, since they weren't taken at exactly the same angle its difficult to appreciate how much less angle there is, the cables attached to the transmissions easier and have really fixed the problem. I also adjusted the shift cables per the factory manual after I had removed the bracket.

This is with the 5speed bracket:

so did you retain the 5 gear cables, or did you change over to the 6 gear ones?

I had a set of 6speed cables in all of those pictures. I wish I wouldn't have switched over, the 6 speed cables only have one adjustable cable while the 5 speed both cables are adjustable.

I think you would have had more shifting problems with the 5 speed cables. When I was swapping over I remember reading that people did have issues with them. Maybe it could have been adjusted out but you might as well have the part it's supposed to have.

you can't use 6 speed cables on the five speed, they are like 2 inches short of getting into the brackets.

yeah I think we're talking about the opposite scenario here-

There doesn't seem to be a solid answer to the 5 gear cables working correct on the 6 gear...I'd love to know

yeah I think the 5 cables should work, but I try to err on doing the right thing when it comes to the trans and went to 6 speed cables (long story)
