he'll probably get a raise. seriously.
plenty of people want him out. there might be 3-4 coaches in the country that wouldn't trade the players he's able to get there. but year in and year out he continues to under perform. but some people are so afraid of it being worse. fact is it can't be. Saban, Miles, Meyer, Chizick, Spurrier have won National Titles and Malzhan has been to the Championship and with a team that didn't win a single confrence game the year before. this year has got to be the worst ever. in a year where the SEC East is garbage. SC sucks, UF couldn't score to save their lives against anyone ran you out of the building. then there's GT. a highschool offense that consists of a bunch of players UGA didn't want. this was the most winnable schedule they've had in years. Spurrier's team was so bad he just might retire and Richt got beat by a UF team that was so bad they fired the coach. Senior QB, 3 of the best 4 RB's in the country and upper classmen all over the place.
Pathetic. but like I said, he'll probably get a raise.
But who could Georgia realistically get? You can only fire a guy with Richt's success if you have a for-sure homerun hire waiting to take his place. It's not like he's going 6-6 every year. He's in the hunt for the SEC championship game year in and year out. I would agree that his teams have performed below expectations, but perhaps the expectations are always too high.
everybody else can't be wrong. he's getting tons of players. players everyone else wants. if he couldn't get it done with as bad as the East was this year he isn't going to. hell his best year was with the last guy's players.
"who are you going to get?" is not an excuse. somebody is out there.I had no idea who Gus was until he got to AU and went to the National Championship. who would have thought Saban would have left Miami for Alabama of all places. I've been to Tuscolussa(sp) and you can have it. several coaches have come, gone and stayed since he has been there. some have even won multiple championships and this same excuse was used back then as well. better coaches are out there. I'm just a fan. it's the job of the AD and the big money people to figure out that. 4 other teams have found that coach in the last 14 years.
I can't tell you how many times I've seen a below avg GA player lighting it up in the NFL. Justin Houston anyone? he has the talent, the resources and the support to get the job done and he is not. you look at the programs that get shit done and they're not the type to stick with average. because that's all he is. lose all the games he should and some of the ones that he shouldn't.
edit: AJ Green, Matt Stafford, Knowshon Moreno, Justin Houston and Marlon Brown just to name a few.
is there a team(SEC) outside of maybe Vandy that you'd give the coaching edge to UGA on? I can't think of one. Kentucky sucks but look at what Stoops has been able to do with that basketball schools football team. Richt NEVER gets more than you'd expect from a player. it's exactaly what you'd expect or more often less.

Per this nifty post:
DaggaStats, Part I: College Football Head Coach Year In Review - Barking Carnival
He actually had a pretty decent year? You can directly compare Richt to other SEC coaches with similar "talent" (based on recruiting rankings)... based on this year, he clearly outperformed: Gus Malzahn, Les Miles, Will Muschamp, Kevin Sumlin... SEC is pretty loaded with coaching talent.
And per this one:
Find a Coach by the Numbers, Part I - Barking Carnival
He was analytically determined to be the ~20th best in the country a year ago.
Doesn't Georgia pump out ~5th most NFL players? CA/TX/FL/???

TN was a dumpster fire a year ago and they gave us all we could handle and damn near won this year. UF won this year and Kentucky is playing way above their talent.
well he got beat by the bottom of the barrell according to that list so how good is that really?
per that list he's not even listed in terms of top talent. recruiting is what most people seem to give Richt as what he's so good at. well not according to that list. And per this one:
Find a Coach by the Numbers, Part I - Barking Carnival
He was analytically determined to be the ~20th best in the country a year ago.
he's also managed to lose to some of the least talented schools like Vandy and Kentucky. fact is the guys winning titles don't lose to schools like that.
he's not even listed on the Best "Honeymoon Performers" or the "Best Established Performers" list.
there are 6 coaches in the confrence listed on the Cumulative CxT Averages that are above Richt. 7 if you count Meyer. however Brady Hoke is listed above him with Bo Pellini both of whom just got fired. so 2 other coaches at national brand schools that are supposedly better than him per that list got fired which tells me one of 2 things. that the list is garbage or guys that are "better" are getting canned so how good can he really be.
7th according to this list by school. but in terms of where the person is orgnially from. I don't know. either way it's not his job to get these kids jobs in the NFL. it's his job to win in Athens.Doesn't Georgia pump out ~5th most NFL players? CA/TX/FL/???
Number of NFL Players ranked by College: 2014 NFL Season
look at his record against ranked opponents. because lets agree non-ranked "cupcake" teams don't really matter even though he manages to lose one of those almost every year anyways. see 2014 UF.
A closer look at Mark Richt's record | Shanks on Sports | Macon.com
it's bad. not good at all and isn't that what he should be measured against? I've searched his record against ranked teams and it's a bunch of articles from 2012 after getting blown out by SC in Columbia. it seems that getting blown out is kinda what he does. here's one of the better ones:
Georgia?s record against ranked teams tells quite the story - Saturday Down South
you can say what you want about this metric or that metric and "no he's actually pretty good" but the facts are he is not. when compared to what happens on the field and the score board he's medicore at best. personally I'm sick of being disapointed. "oh man this year is going to be the year" no wait no it's not, blown out by UF AGAIN and gave up against GT. the the Richt appologists come up with some excuse every year. this year it was the whole Gurley thing. nevermind Nick Chubb ran just as good. last year it was the injury excuse. next year it's going to be "well it's so and so's first year at QB and the SEC is really tough". mark my words that will the the narratitive. meanwhile OSU is going to the playoff with their 3rd string QB. granted they play in a shitty conference but the SEC East was probably worst. I mean Mizz has won it 2 years in a row.... Missouri....
no don't get me wrong. I'll be rooting for them but it wouldn't surprise me one single bit if they get blown out against L'ville. it sets up perfectly. worthless Big East team, new coach, nothing to play for and without a doubt a fraction of the talent on the field. they'll come out flat because well that's his personality.
I love hearing fans with success football programs bitch about how 9 wins a year is awful and unacceptable. Really takes me back to my first couple years in college when TN underperformed by only making it to the SEC championship game and losing...So glad we got rid of Fulmer, things have really improved since then.

what's the difference between 9-6 and 6-9? really. the name of the shitty meaningless bowl you go to? Kiffen won some games when he was there. hell he blew out Richt and then the left stripping the team. that's what went wrong. he probably would have been just as good if not better than Fulmer had he stayed. that's a unique situation.
UF had their won version of Richt with Zook and he finished 2nd in the east, won it and 3rd. sounds like Richt to me and they fired him for Meyer and that worked out pretty well didn't it.
keeping Richt because it might get worse is like a woman staying with a man that beats her because her next BF might hit her harder. it also says to me that the AD has zero confidence in doing his job any better.
