    What a beautiful car, Jim.
Ranked No. #1 in initial quality

Idiots, simply by being idiots, seem capable of achieving randomly bad things that are beyond the imaginings of sensible people.

Well hot damn she lives! Looks amazing, and only a few days away from cruising again. I am Jelly! You have beaten me. (No surprise there)

She's alive enough to get on my street, turn around and get back on the driveway with ugly loud squeals, definitely not "streetable" yet so no beating has been had

After replacing idler pulley and tensioner pulley I confirmed the ugly loud scraping / squeal noises are from the AC compressor bearings and the belt slipping when the clutch binds up. It appears to be the clutch at fault. I tried to source the AC clutch but when I read deeper it seemed not to make sense to try to fix a portion of an 18 year old compressor. I just ordered a remanufactured AC compressor through Rock Auto. Although it is reman it comes with a 24 month warranty if you also buy the drier and expansion valve. Compressor was priced at $375 with a $45 core charge. A special order reman from Autozone would have been $525 and only a 3 month warranty. O'Reilly couldn't even give me a price without ordering and Advance doesn't seem to have any stores out west. Google searches also led to new units for $525 with a 12 month available through web orders to places like BuyACParts.

I hope I can borrow the guage manifold and electric pump from Autozone. If not I'll get them at Harbor Freight.

Damn lot of effort just to get to a car that charges properly
