The FMIC might be too thick. I have somewhat considered switching back to sidemounts, but how much will that hurt me running E16G's? I am running the CXRacing FMIC (the one sold from price matched parts).

I may consider a different FMIC if there is one I can swap over without too much trouble.

I guess its also possible that without any ducting, the fans could be pulling in some air from the hot engine bay back around the sides of the a/c condensor. It will be a few weeks before I can try to fab some ducting up, but at this point, I see that being the first step to keeping things cooler. Then if I still experience problems, I'll either considering testing out an OEM radiator or a possible change of FMIC.

Is the ETS core that much better? I thought it was thicker than the CXRacing FMIC.

i may have to see if they can build one with an identical size to the cx racing core so i can just directly bolt it up to my pipes.

I bet some of the heat issues you're having are related to the cx racing fmic. That's an e-bay special. That's a cheap part, not a high horsepower performance part. The core is prolly only good for 500 whp. Two or three full gear pulls before it's heatsoaked and then... no more fun. Your sandwiching your radiator between a 300 + degree intercooler core and 1400 degree manifolds. Why haven't you wrapped your headers and installed a hood vent?

ETS will custom make you a core of your liking. I would use the the core the custom made for the 3000gt then mod the pipes to fit! Over heating is a common problem with the rx7 and cheap intercoolers. Intercoolers are not made equal! ETS FTW!

I will probably change out the core this summer then. I have a viper hood which is cowl inducted in the back. Although that is not ideal for highway speeds, my issues are coming at idling, and hot air is let out of the back. I'm sure vents near the radiator would be better, but I bought the hood 7 years ago and don't want to spend more money right now on a new hood and a new paint job. I'm not so sure that wrapping the headers are going to help that much. Someone else said it really didn't make that much of a difference. I may consider doing that, but right now, I'm getting married in 6 days and need the car as the getaway car. Car is fine with a/c on and driving, only have problems with a/c on and idling. If the a/c is off, I have zero issues.

I may try to go with a custom and see if they can make it the same size as the one I got. Sure I can cut the pipes, but the size I have now allows a little bit of fresh air around the intercooler. I would like to have that available to cram complete fresh air into the radiator with custom ducting I plan to make this summer.
