^^^ Another 600hp car running on a solid for years and years ^^^

I like this test this is really cool. Only thing changed is the friction modifiers in the oil... You can even hear the pitch change on the bearing and the rotating fork when they add oil additives and try to seize the bearings on the roller brake. Notice the node actually gets quieter the hotter the bearing gets. IMO internal balance and and a good motor oil package are more important than the dampener. Watch the video....

Catching up to my thread here. I have a stupid question to ask.

I have never dealt with the crankshaft before in any way, shape or form. Now that I have the belt off of it, if I were to move/spin the crankshaft pulley at all either direction will that throw off my timing? I have only READ and HEARD about these things in the past and never had to deal with setting timing etc.. since its such a pain on our cars, but I would really hate to mess up my timing before I change out this pulley... so I'm asking the PROS. lol

Also, whats the best way to get the crank bolt off. I don't feel comfortable cranking the engine and having some wrench setup to turn the bolt off it, so what other method might I employ here? Special tools or regular tools?

I think I'm going to try the solid pulley. I thought of another reason. HOW OLD IS THE OEM PULLEY NOW? I have no idea (anyone else????) if Mitsu has made these old parts recently or if they are just overstock from 1999 when the last 3000GT was made. If its all old overstock from 10 years ago, it would seem that the life of the OEM pulley with the rubber would be shortened from that of if I bought it in say the year 2000..... right/wrong?

BG MOA - pretty cool video actually. Never heard of that stuff till that video.

Another question: How likely is it that I've turned the crankshaft pulley when I took the belt and outer pulley ring off (the pulley that turns that belt that isn't supposed to come off)?

I have never purposely tried to turn the crankshaft, so I would guess it would require a bit of effort to do, but if you were to measure in lbs of torque how much effort it would take to turn the crankshaft pulley by hand, what would it be? lol

I'm asking this of course because I just realized (above) that if I did move the pulley in either direction when I first disassembled it, that I may have thrown off my timing..... unless people post back otherwise of course.

Yes, the parts are old. I've always had to bump the engine to get the bolt off. Since your timing belt is in tact, changing the pulley won't affect your mechanical timing.

Air gun 1/2 drive! Never had a problem.

    Oh Thank GOODNESS!

Only thing is (on a different note), I know its overdue to change that timing belt, but I've always avoided it. I don't know many people that know how to do it right or that want to due to how involved it is. One time a mechanic had my car (a long long time ago) and messed up my timing somehow and I'd brought it in to him working fine so he took blame for screwing up the timing and said he'd fix it on his own time/labor. Took him a MONTH to get it back to me because he put it off behind all his other work and because he knew he'd screwed it up.

This is great to know. I just hope its that easy for my setup.

Do you put a holding tool in place first or do you just "zoom zoom" it right out of the crankshaft?

Do I have to worry about the crankshaft turning counterclockwise at all or is that not a concern because my timing belt etc... are all still intact/installed?

No holding tool just zip. A powerful 1/2" air gun (impact )shouldn't have a problem. (I meant 1/2" in my earlier post NOT 3/8. [Total Brain fart])
