OP, if your stocker isn't showing obvious cracks in the rubber, then why change it? Maybe i missed it but is yours damaged somehow? Realistically you aren't going to feel much of a(if any) difference. If you are looking to increase power there are many other bolt-on parts that won't have a possible detrimental effect to your motor. IMHO save your money for better bolt-on's.

If you are dead set on doing this then find a friend with a nice 1/2in impact wrench and 120+psi compressor and if it doesn't zip right off then oil the gun, press hard, and try again; if that still doesn't work then buy one of those cheapy flat mild-steel generic big ass wrench from your hardware store; have your friend drill some holes and weld some studs in place(sure you could tap and thread them in but why bother) just don't waste your time with those 'universal' crank tools; i tried a few before i made my tool. Ill load some pics later

rubber dries and becomes brittle over time. even if you can't see cracks in it, age/wear/heat can make it more susceptible to failure. meaning that you will NOT get the same longevity out of an old pulley as you will with a new one--no matter how good it appears to be.

If the rubber is brittle at the time of inspection, I am in total agreement with you. I'm all for preventive maintenance. I would be cautious in saying that all crank pullies that are X years old need replacing regardless of inspection though.

i'm not saying there's a hard & fast date after which something is no longer servicable. parts may last a shorter period than that. occasionally they may last longer. still, 10 years is MY rule of thumb for when it just makes sense to swap it out. same thing with rubber engine mounts, imho. once a decade maintainable isn't that much to ask for. replacement hips/knees aren't expected to last more than 10 years or so.

I'm just saying I wouldn't make a blanket statement like that. If the rubber is in good shape after 10 years of use I will continue to use it instead of blindly going out to buy a new part to replace an older one that is in perfectly acceptable condition.

You don't replace a tire because the rubber gets old. Tires aren't just one big loop of rubber lol. Not really a valid comparison.

Engine mounts are a better comparison, but I can't see why anybody would go out of their way to replace a mount that appears to be in perfect condition, regardless of age.
