again though, you say that about a 2k desktop...but you're discounting the cost of a good monitor. last desktop i bought had a 22" monitor that cost me $850. seriously. and the resolution was only "slightly" better than it is on my current laptop (1920x1440 vs. 1920x1200). i could care less about screen size; what i want is dpi. wuxga 15.4" was as close to 150dpi as i could get this side of an iphone. i would upgrade to a 17" if i could get a wqxga screen; but somehow, i don't see that happening for YEARS (if ever). f**k 1080p & the glut of low-resolution crap that it has generated.

yes, you're going to pay a little bit more for laptop gaming; but it's not as much as people make it out to be. gateway p-7801 being a perfect $1100 example. remember, sitting 18" from a laptop screen is probably the same as sitting across the room from a 70". there isn't much need to upgrade from 4gb ram & quad core (as quad core optimization hasn't even been fully rolled out). and "underpowered" or not, the FPS benchmarks on good gaming laptops are nothing to sneeze at; so only the most HARDCORE of videophile gamers would be "unsatisfied" with gaming on a good (read $2000) gaming rig. and if you fall into that category, you probably don't own an xbox/ps3 on principle.

people just don't seem to appreciate that for 1/2 the cost of a top-end rig 10 years ago, you can have an insanely more capable (relative to graphic demands) laptop today.

in any event, i despise console FPS's for destroying the genre. i primarily blame MS for this.
$850 dollars? Jesus... Just a 5 second newegg search..

I can understand a gaming laptop if you want to game over sea's, but other than gaming on a vacation or deployment, there is no need to waste money on a gaming laptop. I have a few military friends that also bought a gaming laptop for that reason. One of my friends had a $3000 dollar dell XPS laptop and my $1200 rig blew it out of the water.

For non computer hardware enthusiasts I can understand a gaming laptop for ease of moving it around I guess. For those of us that love putting computers together and upgrading the bottlenecks in our system, laptops are just frustrating because of the lack of the ability to do so. Honestly never bothered me to move my gear around for a LAN party.

More shooters installed than 99% of the population has played? Rofl... If only we were all as big of gamers as yourself...

Very similar setup to mine. I like to stay with full towers though. I use to have an antec 900 and the full tower just feels so much better to build with. Surprising how cheap computer can be now and still destroy every game you throw at it.

I always go AMD with ATI/Sapphire.

I was going to go with a full tower, but the V3 black was just too temping. All painted black internals, simple outside, I couldn't pass it up for the price I got. Plus it easily fits everything, and I have plenty of room for a 2nd video card if I want someday

I'll have to snap a pic of mine tonight and throw it on here

It looks like a really nice case with great airflow. I have been spoiled by owning Antec cases and now I can't get away from cases with top exhaust fans. I have the Coolermaster HAF 932 and this thing is an air flowing beast. I have built with a ton of cases and this has to be the nicest one I have ever used. The only one I have built with that was similar to this was the Antec 1200. That is a really well put together case. I'm jealous of your painted black internals though. I was going to break mine down and put a coat of black on it, but I decided I was too lazy :P

yeah. thought so. i'm being lectured by a guy who is supposedly the "1337" of pc gamers, but has NO FREAKING CLUE what a top-end crt cost circa 2001.

if your friend spent $3000 on a laptop that's the same age as your $1200 desktop and it's LOSING...something is dreadfully wrong.

    p.s.

wtf would anyone pay for a razer? seriously, i use a $20 laser mouse that's every damn bit as good as a razer. i may be able to tell the difference between displays; but i doubt ANYONE can tell the difference between laser mice unless you're somehow a freak of nature.

LOL. I have a DeathAdder. Trust me, it kicks the ass of my old mouse MS IE1.0 in ergonomics and performance. I had a Habu next, and it had terrible laser placement, and was really awkward to use because of how I use my mice (rolling them on my fingertips, and rotating my wrist side to side) I'd rather spend the money for a mouse that works well and doesn't hurt my wrist.

but yeah... if my CRT wasn't dying, I'd keep it forever. It's perfect for me.
