maybe that was the case 10+ years ago. it's not that way any more. everything i game in is above 1080p resolution; and i have no problems. i'd have even higher performance if i had gotten a 17" w/ dual gpu.

if you can stomach gaming on an xbox/ps3, a gaming laptop is actually a STEP UP from that. seriously.

I took an old $25 case and stickerbombed it, then cut a hole in the side and added the trim and plexi. Came out great I think.

For the price/performance value of an Xbox is really outstanding. When it was released it would have been impossible to build a comparable computer for 1/3rd the price. Besides the RROD of course lol. I think my xbox only lasted about 6months, but I really only play computer games so I never even bothered to send it in for the free fix.

Laptops are nice if you travel a lot and want to play games I guess, but you have to sacrifice paying premium for a computer that will have a smaller than ideal screen, minimal upgrade-ability and an underpowered version of a popular gpu. You can counter some of those points with a more expensive customizable Sager or ASUS laptop, but the price/performance just isn't there with laptops. On top of that they are generally prone to overheating and for gaming have to be plugged in. A 2000 would get you a pretty decent laptop, but a 2000 desktop would destroy everything it touched.
