I still disagree. I mean straight up, you're not a racecar driver or a crew chief right? Real drivers are robots. Every shift is the same, every launch is the same, and they do it within 0.00x of a second accuracy every time and consistantly shift in the same window as well. Everyone here has observed lots and lots of of 3/S weekend warriors, seen lots of missed shifts, and witnessed hundreds of 60's and trap speeds all over the map. If someone cut the line every time at 1.555 and had the same 60 and same 1000ft everytime and they were breaking shit everytime you may be on to something. No one I have ever observed, nor heard of has ever posted robotic back to back to back to backs. Even the legends. A part of their technque seems to change everytime.
One thig that does seem odd, the drivers observed using the same technique with repetition in consistant windows are somehow able to keep their cars together.
That sounds interesting and right on par with the reality of there's always going to be secrets in racing, that's part of the game and competitve edge. What I was trying to illustrate is let's say Joe Blow lends his 700hp car to Mario Andretti and he rapes the piss out of it on a dragstrip. Puts down robot like 10.200- 10.195 passes like clock work (banging passes like shep pulling 9.7's in his street car). Andretti gives Joe his car back and says "go for it" and the drivetrain comes apart. Some kid posts a U-Tube of it coming apart and low and behold in short time it's announced to the world said drivetrain is made of glass. Just doesn't make sense.
yup. the reason why the legends never seem to break is because when they break they fix it and don't tell anyone. at least, until the fix is ready for sale![]()

exactly.
when questioned I know most of the big names have a good sized collection of broken parts in their garage, Taz is one of my favorites as when something breaks he lets everyone know![]()

Technique changes because parts change. When I had the RPS pressure plate and a stock disk, I never broke anything and ran back to back to back to back 11.1's... Then I got the 6 puck and welded center diff, then the RPS CC, then ditched the DR's for QTP's... Every step along the way I've only had a few launches before it broke again. The RPS CC requires your left foot to move in the opposite direction to make it slip because of the way the friction coefficient increases with temperature. Tough to break old habits in so few passes.
I very much agree with just about everything Hellbringer said in his last post. The best technique I found for launching was to go WOT and then come out on the clutch very quickly and hesitate for a fraction of a second at the release point before coming all the way off.

I raced my 92 quite a bit even though it was only BPU and I still cracked a transfercase. My launch technique was fine and the street tires were horrible at gripping. I had too many launches and many miles on it which is what led to its demise. I never had a problem after a transfercase brace, but I also had put low mileage parts in too. The 93 hasn't seen any street or track action, but it's a whole new power goal that will break parts left and right since it'll be exceeding the factory designed power by 2.5x+. More people are going to see failures in 6-speeds than 5s. The 6-speeds weren't a very good design but not as bad as some other transmissions like in the EVOs and STIs. The 5 speeds generally hold up better especially the 25-splines. I've been in 4 different 6-speeds that cracked their cases. There was nothing wrong with the launch or technique. It ranged from DR-500s to E16Gs. Oddly enough 3 out of the 4 of them broke when the car was moving 40+ mph. Having been in both situations I'm more of an advocate of preventative insurance for the trannys and transfercases because sure they won't break all the time, but it is going to happen sooner or later.
