I totally don't trust any japanese guys to actually have any idea where their engine came from...i think they just make it up half the time.

I've had that It came from a GTO shit before too...rooooofll

I am with tufter on this one. if it drops right in it is of a debonair no if's/uns/or buts about it.

if anyone says otherwise they are simply misinformed. for how easy this engine is to drop in it's sad to see so much misinformation out there steering people away from it, becuase it trulely is a great option for the N/a guys.

i honestly would love to see a sticky for the 6g74 with all the correct info

Yes... Its was out of a Pajero...Swap was performed by Xwire...

You cannnnn use it but getting a debonair one is a drop in process, i know cause I've done it. Not one thing needed to be modified, just another engine swap.
I really don't know much about the swap but if the block is the same why can't you bolt all your 72 parts right up to it?

maybe we need to dig up some block part numbers so we ACTUALLY know what we have? no matter that the supplier says?

When you say "block is the same" what exactly do you mean here?
You can use your 72 power steering pump, alternator, pulleys and crank pulley, you NEED the power steering bracket and alternator bracket 100%. These are the hard parts to come by.

I'm using a 72 crank pulley and 72 power steering pump.

If your referring to the 74 DOHC Pajero block, then I am almost positive you need to change the oil pump as-well. It's basically a total stip down and refit with new and other parts. Even the heads are different in the Pajero/Montero version.

I'm even using 72 exhaust manifolds, bolt right up with some 1cm/$6 spacers from the exhaust shop to my SOHC downpipe. winnarrrr

MR2 - I'd love to get some Debonair VIN's to do this...might have to traul trademe.co.nz

I thought you meant the block was the same, thats what I was getting at, that they must be different.

As far as that goes mate I honestly could not tell you and I don't want to spread false information.
My point being, even if you did find a montero block, finding the rest of the parts to make the whole engine work is a BIG PITA!

pajero yes and montero no. they are not the same. just a couple mods to pajero and it's in.

So what exactly are the proven gains of doing the 3.5 over the dohc 3.0 NA?
