What Apple product/s do you use?

Ok. I'm starting to get where you're coming from. You'de like to strangle most of the idiots that use apple as there are better/cheaper alternatives. I get that. But doesn't that go for most things in life? For instance, take our car platform. Shirley there are better/faster/more reliable alternatives? I can't argue about windows capabilities as I just dont get that nor really care as for me, if it works for me, I'm happy. Like I said, in media, if you're video editing, Final Cut is the weapon of choice. When I first used FC, I hated it. I found it was a more complex version of AVID, but after a little time I loved it. It's can't say it's better than AVID or Adobe Premier or some of the other editing platforms, but it's brilliant for what I need.

Your comparison doesn't make any sense. You're talking about better/cheaper vs better/faster/more reliable.. without taking cost into it. Obviously, if you spend more money on something you would want a better/faster/more reliable product. The point IPD is making is that your not spending more money for a better/faster/more reliable product with Apple. I don't dislike people that use Apple products. I just treat them the same as people who bolt ridiculous wings and put under glows on their Neons. Buying anything because its a fad and you want people to think your cool always gets a out of me.

If you spent the money to buy a TT and found out you got a base model with a new paint job and TT emblem on it what would your sentiments be?

This is where you're struggling. No. Not ALL the time. Sometimes you have to pay more for something just because it's what YOU want or maybe what is better isn't available. YOU may not do that but I would. Again, it's a personal preference, and that is MY point.

i'd like to take a minute and focus on that statement. i've ran across very, very few apple users who prefer apple some reason other than it being "trendy". the "iphone4" video is apt...but here's another one that i think fits the bill quite nicely:

You know those threads where members say all women suck? You're like those guys. You're talking about fanbois you've heard about, known in person etc etc, but you dont know EVERY PERSON who has purchased an apple product. I've already mentioned why I went the apple way.

My next phone will more than likely be an iPhone as I'm sick of the mobiles we get which just aren't that great. We dont get the selection you guys have and when you go on a 2 year contract, the choice is even smaller. I dont take into consideration the features of a mobile phone that you would. Again, personal preference. If I go to a shop and the sales person says, "it fucking prints money"! I'll grab that phone stat! lol

it's not a generalized statement, scotty. i've ran across all types of apple users. by far, the minority are the people who have been "Grandfathered" into using it for graphic-design work; are limited/hamstrung to utilize anything else because of job limitations; or (amazingly) can somehow cobble-together a fairly reasonable thought on why another alternative would not suit that individual's needs as well.

apple makes its bread & butter off people who want to be trendy and people who are technologically illiterate. of course, there's a lot of overlap between those categories.

I beg to differ, what you were saying is the epitome of a generalized statement. In your earlier post, you mentioned that the "average" Apple user has a hard time coming up with a reason they went with a Mac or an iPhone. This makes sense, because your average computer user isn't you, me, Jeremy or Alan -- but rather someone like our brothers, sisters, friends or half-dozen others that use computers for the most simplistic of reasons: email, web, entertainment, and work (which both platforms can handle just fine).

I have no doubt that there are people that buy into a certain brand to be trendy, but this isn't a purchasing habit that's exclusive to Apple. It takes no stretch of the truth to tell you that for every iPhone user you know that bought an iPhone "because it's an iPhone", I can name off someone I know that bought an Android device because "it's not an iPhone." To them - that's the only argument they need, and... I'm okay with that. I don't blame them - this is how the Android was marketed: the iPhone Killer. This is no criminal act in itself to not be able to come up with a better reason, these people are your *average* users.

So, Thadd - tell me a brand that you support that DOESN'T have a following of die-hard, possibly clueless, average users. Maybe that's where I should have started to begin with: because many of the same things you accuse Apple of, most other companies are just as guilty of. I can go into more detail on this if you want (not that I particularly want to).

Not really. Before the poll I knew most Americans (members here and on 3si and BAWC) hated Apple but never really gave any real reasons why. And after this thread, I'm still yet to see why. Honestly, arguments for Apple are miles in front of the againsts. No, let me say that part again. The arguments why Apple suck balls are pretty weak, not so much that Apple aren't a great product.

Maybe you have a short attention span, so let me go over the one more time for you. You said nobody has given "any real reasons why". We say "Your paying top dollar for an inferior product and a shiney Apple logo". You say "But but but but... it works for me..". It's fine that Apple works for you. Apple works for most people that don't do real computer work and just need to surf the internet. That's not what the conversation is though.

It's because you pay an amount that is disgustingly inflated for what you get. People don't realize that and buy them because they are trendy and their primary argument is "but but but... I never get viruses." Without a doubt, every Mac fanboi always pulls that card out. Whoops. There's one.

Wev'e had our iMac for 3 months. We dont run anti-virus software, dont get pop-ups and it doesn't crash on me.

If your not running anti-virus software.. you could have a virus and not know it. I have 3 computers in my room and none of them have ever had a virus. Hell, at work I administer a network of 20+ computers being used by extraordinarily computer illiterate people surfing the web 80% of their day and I haven't had a virus pop up in years, so I'm not really sure why you hold 3 months above your head like it's some kind of achievement.

You wanted to know why people don't like Apple.

You pay more for an inferior product. That's why. Any educated consumer would feel the same.
