For some reason when I tried installing the games to the TB D: drive steam made the folder, but errored after that on many attempts. I need to research.

Help them, for they know not that which they do not know!

You guys have no CLUE about SSD speeds. I wouldn't buy any laptop OR desktop that didn't have a x4 PCIE connection for an M.2

Sure Chris. Then why get an 850 EVO which is 1/4 of the read speed?

Because it isn't the bottleneck in most systems/use cases and a lot of ultrabook machines I use only have msata ports. My laptops and even desktops last 3-4+ years now and right now I find it more sensible to buy say a XPS 13 for $300 on ebay than spend $1200 on a new one.

I run a devils canyon i5-4690k @ 4Ghz for work and picked up a $70 motherboard instead of spending $200-300 on one that supports nvme. They make host cards for that if I feel so desired:

    http://www.amazon.com/Ableconn-PEXM2...=nvme+adapters

but the crucial m400 I have still serves its purpose. I do software development, I don't really run a high transaction relational database or something on my workstation here that would benefit from any faster ssd.

In short there is a principle of diminishing returns involved in my choice anyway, but not everyone's. I also have to buy what fits the format of machines I have. To me a 3lb FHD laptop with a 250GB evo 850 is actually perfect for tuning the car and fast enough it doesn't piss me off to use it for other uses. I am going to hop on my desktop if I need to do serious work, mainly because it has 2 30" monitors.

    Oh, almost forgot...

I ran MSI's VR capability test program. On oem gpu clock it is dead center "usable at lower frame rate" with a 2.8 score heat 45C no aux fan use. Clocked about 2/3rds higher goes to just below the green "Usable without issue" at 4.9 score 52C with aux fan... This is for their new not release VR so I need to loo into Oculous needs as well.

Jim, my PC is OLDDDDD, 3770k, 770 GPU, etc. I planned on building a new PC, but realistically, my PC is fast enough for everything but running the consumer version Rift. I can keep frame rates up and smooth with iRacing and the rift, which is what I care about. Nothing else I play is even remotely that graphics intensive, the rift is a HUGE drain on the system. I'm fine with that limitation for now, but I'll definitely be looking into the NVMe stuff when I do a new desktop with the latest Intel chipset and the rumored (confirmed?) GTX1080... But that money is more likely to be spent on a BBK (getting to the point where I need it more than I want it) soooo....

Fair enough. Knowing your use case is always best. In my case it is HW development and the simulations and file transfers are disk intensive. Everything Windows runs much faster on an M.2 SSD. We are upgrading a two year old desktop now and specing a i7-6700K with 32GB DDR4 and 3 M.2 SSD slots.

Even for home I built a desktop with an M.2 slot and an i7-4790K with 16GB. I don't care about gaming on the PC but I like the OS running out of fast SSD and all my media runs out of storage spaces.
