I'm curious why you say this. His tires may be a little taller than stock and even grow a little on the big end, but assuming stock tires:
3rd at 145 (trap speed is just an average for the last 60 ft, so the terminal speed is actually higher than this) is 8600 RPM on a 5 speed.
I'm not sure if the OP is running the JDM or USDM six speed gearing, but let's assume JDM.
4th is good for 167 at 8600 RPM.
In short most likely either way a shift to 4th is necessary, but the six speed can actually use it. The lower average gearing should make the six speed car faster, assuming it can be put to the ground. It is also a lot easier on the clutch.
