99 Montero ECU, 92 Stealth TT

Bah... you guys beat me to the punch. Some of the guys that are doing swaps on the Conquest are working on this same thing. Maybe I should point them here as you're way farther ahead than I am.

Automatic or manual, doesn't matter, same ECU. The trans control was separate. When I bought mine, I went on Ebay, searched for 99 Montero ECU, and bought the cheapest one. Yes, you can certainly do that. I was going to do that, until I got a harness made. You need to wire in an OBDII port, and flash enable cable for the Tactix. Brett Farnam made my harness, I'm not sure if hes going to make any more beyond the ones he's made for us testing this stuff out, but he may. I dont know if he is on this site, but he is on 3si.



Did you read my first post? I have 13t's, 450s, 8.3:1 Wiseco pistons, full exhaust no cats, hot wired walbro, and just about every other supporting mod you can have. I do not have ANY piggy backs hooked up. I reflashed my ECU for bigger injectors, and changed the timing maps, and my car runs just like stock, except its got 13t's set at 14psi. No knock, on 91 octane.

I really hope you guys end up doing a step by step write up on how to do this. That way we all could build them to our needs/tastes. I have no idea where most things are located on the ECU, but like most here am a quick learner.

I have the locations of all the missing pieces, just not the values or anythign like that. I can get the values for the knock sensor circuitry, which is the most important missing link. The other stuff is not as important, because most people do not have it anymore. If you are comfortable soldering on PCBs, then its fairly easy to modify the board. I did not make my adapter harness, so I really can offer no insight about that process. But I can tell you that, you do just have to look at a 99 pin out, and a whatever year your car is pinout, and make sure the pins are connected correctly. Wiring in the OBDII port and flash enable pin, I do not know what to do with that. Im going to try and get some pics of the adapter harness this weekend, so ya'll can see what it looks like.

Ya I would be willing to pay for information like ECU part number (just to be 100% sure it will work), and knock sensor circuit information. I think I can figure out the pin out stuff/OBD port/flash enabler.

Any 98 or 99 Montero ECU will work. How many times do I have to say, all I did was go to Ebay, type in 99 Montero ECU, and bought the cheapest one. As for the knock sensor circuit there are 2 resistors and 1 capacitor missing, I dotn know the values off hand, and it will be a bit before I pull the ECU out again to check. I do know the locations, but I do not know the value.

Well Brett or whoever helped you mentioned to me on the other forum that you can't just go out and get any old 98-99 Montero ECU it has to be real specific bla bla bla. So in my eyes either he is talking it up and making it sound harder than it is so he can capitalize off it (which is fine, I know he worked hard) or you got lucky grabbing a random 99 Montero ECU.

Either way, I could Paypal you a few bucks for the locations of the missing pieces and when you pull the ECU I'll pay you a bit more for the values if your cool with that. If so, just PM me how much you want and your Paypal address.

I dont need or want money. I gave you the locations and values of the knock sensor parts, thats the most important, and the only ones I know, I dont have the other values at all, just the positions, which wont do you any good unless you have a 99 VR4 ECU that you can get the values from.

Now, what Brett said on the other site is that NONE of the ECUs are direct plug n play, meaning you can't just drop them in and go (cause of stuff like the knock sensor). 98-99 Montero's WILL work, with some modification (knock sensor). AFAIK 98-99 Diamante Manual Transmission ECUs WILL work as well, with some modification. What he said is you dont want to go out and buy just any Mitsubishi V6 ECU from 98-99, cause they may not work. Thats all. I am trying to help you, you just are not listening to me.

Gotcha. Not trying to be a pain just want to make sure the stuff will work before I go blow money on it/sell my eManage and Scanmaster setup you know? I appreciate all the information you've given us for sure, thanks!
