Here's cnet's list of best mp3 players. Zunes aren't made anymore (by quite a few years) but I had one and it was great. However out of everything I would believe an ipod to be the best. Go for a mini or something that doesn't have a screen or anything fancy and it'll cost less than a touch.

Can you cell phone play MP3's?

Both my Galaxy S1 and S3 have been used as my MP3 player.

i have a no-frills nokia that i use for pre-paid. far, far cheaper than a mobile plan. plus, having a standalone MP3 player means that i don't have a single point of failure.

The only problem with using the phone as an MP3 is it eats battery life.

If you can get a hold of an old Toshiba gigabeat, they were darn good when they came out, and having the new hd tech that toshiba came up with means they packed a lot in a small package. Too bad they're not made anymore.
"This is a ridiculous cause and effect suggestion."
"Yeah, kind of like the sun rising and then morning happening, eh? What are they trying to pull on us?"

"If I wanted to hear from an asshole, I'd fart into a microphone."

"It's easy. Take the last f*ck, and let it go, and thus you shall have no more f*cks to give."

I've found a lot of phones have become pretty efficient at playing mp3s without consuming much power. On my phone, it only really becomes a factor if I'm streaming the music online.

Just stay away from Sansa Fuse. I've had two of them (different generations), they spent most of their lives on the shelf waiting for use. When I finally got around to getting them loaded up they would go unresponsive until the battery died. Then you can charge them up and try again, but will shortly brick themselves all over again. My Dad had one of his do the same thing too. He also has a Zune that he likes a lot.

Personally, my favorite is a head unit that has a USB port. Just load up your music on a USB key and plug it in. Lower line stereos even have them.
