It's still got 6 strings .. tho played with a slide .. and is called a resophonic guitar ... Jerry Douglas
    Joe Bonamassa
    Buddy Guy
    Sonny Landreth

and Mr Hendrix .. just exists on a different plane
Is it the same Jerry Douglas, known Dobro player? If it is, I've got some of his stuff on my USB stick, my fav is Monkey Let the Hogs Out!

Edit: Apparently the Dobra is the same as resophoninc guitar lol It's the same guy.

I understand after the Weathered album that the band was due to split, however, Mark Tremonti has shown exactly what it is he is capable of when they formed Alter Bridge especially w/ the Blackbird album. He is great friends w/ Rusty Cooley, Michael Angilo Batio, and others. For someone who has sold well over 30 million albums, I'd say he's among the top 5.

    Also Dan Donegan from Disturbed.

    Tomato .. tomaato
Dobro is a registered trademark, owned by Gibson. Everyone else manufactures & sells the resonator or resophonic. Those of us that have em .. it's a dobro
The term comes from the brothers that invented the instrument back in the early 20th century. The Dopyera Brothers perfected several different iterations of the instrument in an effort to get a louder sound out of a guitar. This was back in the time before amplified music was available for the masses.

My favorite guitarist isn't even on the list.
You guys are missing a lot of the current Gods of Guitar :P. Joe Satriani and John Petrucci are definetly up there at the top for me as is SRV. My favorite current day guitarists are:

Jeff Loomis - Miles of Machines

    Michael Romeo - Symphony X

    Paul Gilbert

    Yngwie Malmsteen

I could go on, but these guys are my top 4. Michael Romeo and Jeff Loomis have instrumental albums that are incredible.

I was gonna add Yngwie but all he does is scales over and over and over again.
