Not just technically or but overall. Currently I'd have to say Satch but I'm curious to see what everyone thinks.
Steve Vai
Joe Satriani
John Pettruci
Tom Morello
None Of These Guys

I'd have to agree, but throw in some other names like Buckethead, Steve Vai (or do you consider him 80's?), or even Adam Jones (I'm a huge Tool fan). There are tons of amazing guitarists out there, it's hard to select a top group of even ten imo.
Poll is up! I only added 4 guys to the poll cause there are a ton of amazing guitarists out there. And when I mean talented I don't necessarily mean most famous.
you missed slash! i cant vote!

I just saw Stanley Jordan out in San Francisco, and what that guy does on a guitar redefines it. His sort of Jazz isn't my favorite, but watching him play is simply mind-bending. And he sat down at a piano and played the piano with his left hand, guitar with his right hand... astounding. Then he switched so it was guitar left hand, piano right hand. I couldn't believe what I saw in those 90 minutes.
Tom Morello is pretty damn badass....
Tommy Emmanuel.
