    reading is essential!

The estimate by Doctor Web is in stark contrast to analysis provided Wednesday by Symantec, which showed the number of compromised systems had dropped from more than half a million to about 140,000. Following the release of the latest Doctor Web estimate, Symantec updated its post to say company researchers now believe their servers "are receiving limited infection counts" for the malware.

Said Intego's James: "The realization now that the actual number of infected Macs is a multiple of the numbers cited recently in the press suggest that as many Macs are disinfected others are being infected."

I read it Apple already released a fix, they're more or less on top of it. It's now on the people to download and apply the simple update.

And who do we have to thank for this in the first place? Java. Thanks Oracle!

also have a sager, same gpu, also crapped out. spent WAY too much $$$ getting it fixed. so f**k nvidia.

2nd, if anyone actually believes shaun is telling the truth & that apple does more harm than good, by all means--feel free to burn your income by buying crapple shodducts.

after following apple like a hawk for the past several years, i can say emphatically that regardless of ultimate fault for product failures--apple treats its customers like the problem. iphone4? you're holding it wrong. yellowing screens? it's not a flaw, it's a feature. overheating products? improper usage.

i'm sorry, but just because apple maintains consistent "high marks" doesn't mean that they're golden. apple is probably the only company i am 100% firmly convinced is actively using astroturfing (i'm sure others do as well, but it's a LOT harder to find examples of it). they have the highest profit margins in the tech industry--yet in pure benchmarks, their bang for the buck is tepid at best. they also believe in a tightly-controlled system, which would be great if it was an offline intranet or a heavily encrypted limited-access classified database.

instead, they want to sell to MORE people...while consistently offering the least amount of protection to its users (as a percentage of installed userbase).

i don't care if shaun doesn't believe a lick of what this blogger says. to me, it sounds par for the apple course. bullying. litigation. etc. f-that. apple cannot die fast enough in a horrible fire. apple has become everything that it swore made MS evil--and i'm not even joking about that. MS has actually been very commendable lately--and even google looks like a saint compared to apple.

    p.s
steve jobs had a personality record on file with the government for when he was considered as a consultant (at one time). his "Reality Distortion Field" is not a myth--it's a documented fact. look it up.

It doesn't matter what nvidia did. Apple admitted his computer was covered. Apple admitted his computer could have been fixed at no charge to them. Apple chose to try to not fix the unit and to try to bully the guy in court and made themselves look like dumbasses.

The Java vulnerability is patched. Those computers will not be infected using the same vulnerability again. Hence why I said that all people need to do now is download and apply the simple update.

Thadd, so good to see your cynicism towards Apple hasn't subsided I was wondering when you were going to show up in this thread and spew more personal, bias and bitter hate.

Point out one lie I've given in any of these threads.

I speak from personal experience, and I give links to direct and neutral sources whenever possible. After nearly 20 years of using Apple products (from the shitty ones to the ones I've been quite content with), I feel a bit more qualified to talk about where they excel and where they fall flat. You, on the other hand, talk out of your ass.

    Want some examples?

    iPhone 4 "Antennagate"
Apple offers a free case program, which prevents the "bridging" of the two antennas:
Apple to Give iPhone 4 Users Free Cases | PCWorld
For those that don't want this only viable fix, they are repeatedly told that they would receive a full and easy refund if they want. Yeah, Apple sucks.

    Some iMacs Having Yellow-tinted Screens
Apple acknowledges and offers a fix:
The Conclusion to the Faulty iMac Saga: The Beginning of the Fix
I see no blaming of the customer here, or trying to call it a "feature." They take responsibility and fix the damn issue. And again you say, Apple sucks.

    etc etc.

Fixed. And you're right. Even Steve Jobs, with his "reality distortion field" could admit that:

Now, if you pulled your head out from the sand for more than a few moments, maybe you'd have a better understanding of what exactly is going on and who, in reality, the greater villains in the tech industry are.

Brian, they told him the opposite, it's in the very article Alan posted.

stated in the release, that I had a completely different computer … one that was not subject to the 4 year replacement program.
That is, and what this "Seattle Rex" and you guys clearly don't comprehend, is that his computer was NOT covered by the program NVIDIA laid out. Sure, this may have been a direct result of the 8600M crapping out, but NVIDIA explicitly said and also talked about in their class action suit: NOT ALL 8600M laptops/models are covered. Get it now?

NVIDIA released some testing tools, and compiled a list of serial numbers of machines they'd repair at their expense. In the class action email that was sent out, NVIDIA required customers (or the OEM on their behalf) to go to the class action website (The NVIDIA GPU Litigation - Home Page) and run the serial number. If, for whatever reason (better fans, not part of the affected batch, just being a jackass, etc), NVIDIA determines the number doesn't qualify, the user is out of luck, and the laptop manufacturer is stuck in the middle.

Did this guy bother to go to the website and run his own serial number? From everything he said, the answer is no. But instead of blaming NVIDIA for excluding him, he's quick to jump down Apple's throat instead.

Now granted, Apple has a lot of cash, and it would have been a nice gesture for them to pay out of their pocket to fix this guy's laptop after 3+ years of it working perfectly, but from everything I've read, this guy sounds like an entitled douchebag far worse than any Apple fanboi I've run across. He likes to paint himself as the David that defeated Goliath, and obviously thinks pretty highly of himself and that the world owes him something. Sounds like a real winner.
