My rich little sister offered to finance a trip "anywhere, to do anything" for my 50th.

I told her I'd like to chase tornadoes; she said "No, not that."

Idiots, simply by being idiots, seem capable of achieving randomly bad things that are beyond the imaginings of sensible people.

Wow, 115+ mph winds and it wasn't a hurricane or tornado? Is that some kind of record?

It honestly might be some sort of record. Like I said, in Northwest Omaha, where I lived at the time, winds were over 115mph. There was millions of dollars in damage just in the area around me. I'll see if I can find an article on it. I do remember there were a lot of cars driving around with busted out windows after that. All straight through winds.

Straight-line winds can get pretty crazy - I'm not in a place where we have tornadoes as a regular diet, but we have, a few times a year. sustained winds in the 70-mph range, and a few years ago, they reached 90 mph.

OK, so this video was taken right by where I used to live. The video is labeled as "tornado" as many people thought it was until after the fact we learned it was just straight line winds.

I don't know if they had that thing bolted into 50' deep cement bases or what. Considering there were trampolines scattered everywhere, and this one didn't even flinch. Lot of tree cover, but still.

We've had microbursts on a few different occasions, which might be what happened in your case Al. Winds were so severe that buildings were toppled.

Maybe someday, but it'll have to come out of my pocket.
