why are they better? i've yet to see one catastrophically fail. and even then, enkei, work, blitz, 5zigen, etc > rota.

i don't think anything except custom gold-plated lambo wheels cost 10x what rotas cost. nor do i consider those other brands to be "elitist". i do consider there to be a "minimum standard of quality" with regards to wheels--and rotas fall below that line. they look nice, no doubt...but they're sheer garbage. konig's can be had for almost the exact same price, and are MUCH better quality.

I researched this Rota 'quality' problem about a year ago before I bought some Rota Grids for the VR4. The exact same pictures have been used in the exact same style 'quality' argument since ~2008... Unfortunately, they didn't clear the front calipers, but they fit the wife's 2010 mazda6 and look better than the factory steel + plastic wheel covers ... So I got another cheap wheel instead (see sig).

And just FYI, I got the Grids when they were a ~6 spoke design. I'm not a fan of the new 9 spoke design. They cost less than $600 shipped to my door.

I wouldn't be jumping at the thought of using Rotas on a track where I'd count on them to handle extreme mechanical and thermal stress cycling, but for daily driving and quarter mile blasts...

As far as Rotas are concerned its a show car, I like the way they look and I got them on craigslist for 800 bux with nearly new tires. Heres the thing about them, they have an awesome offset, with the factory body they came right out to the fenders, and with small spacers you can get at a local auto parts store they came out to the cianci fenders evenly. They just work for me and if I ever have a problem with them i'll be sure to post it up for others to learn from it.

I know plenty of people that use Rotas on the track (autoX, drag, road course, you name it) that hot lap their cars day in and day out without issue. The same goes for several other types of "knock-off" style rims from Discount Tire, Tire Rack, random Japanese company - whatever. I've never heard of one person having issues other than random dude X on the internet. Wheel elitism is stupid.

lol. it has nothing to do with eliteism & everything to do with quality. rotas are pieces of shit, and a 30 second google search will demonstrate that. for essentially the same price, significantly better quality can be had.

now that is silly, and i'm probably a little biased..

i did however stay at a holiday in express last night.

no i didn't, but i did smack one of my rotaz into a curb a while back. my friend (driving behind me) said i was doing like 30. i thought it was closer to twenty, but i was slightly tractionless. then again his speedometer actually works.

anyways, it cacked the wheel, but the tire still held air.. after removing the tire, i can see light through the crack. but she held air. i think the crack was just placed perfectly just on the outside of the bead i'm guessing. maybe these are the tire's graces.
