I had a instructor at UTI that had 3 30lb cans of R12 just so he could keep his Corvettes ALL original.

I already converted, on the 1g compressor. That is not the issue. Every parts store I have called can not get one. This place seems to rebuild them, so thats what I'm going to go with.

I usually add about 1/4 extra pound of freon to assist with the poor cooling of 134 compared to 12
Hey Von, I just used the 1g with R134a. It has worked for me. I'm just going to put the compressor on after I have it rebuilt, and then buy a new receiver/dryer, and have a shop do the rest.

Yea no one said you had to switch compressors to run 134, as I understood it you couldn't find a 1 g compressor and was asking what it took to run a 2g comp on a 1 g car. I to have converted many cars from r12 to r134 with no issues

Yeah I couldn't find any that had one. It seems they can rebuild mine. So that's good.

Place said they'd be more the willing to rebuild it. $158 just like what was posted, plus shipping back. Totally worth it, since the cheapest I could find a rebuilt one from an auto parts store was 330 bucks, and new is 600. We'll see how it works out but I dont see it being a problem.

So they said that they can't rebuild it, because its already been rebuilt once, and it wont last. Now I have to see if they have another one, or maybe start thinking about converting to a 2g setup again.

Von you say I will need the lines, but is the only thing different the alginment pins? Could I modify a 2g compressor to work with 1g lines?

Sorry to hear the couldn't rebuild it. I had one they couldn't either, but since it wouldn't turn but one direction I had my doubts. I guess that's a good thing rather than just rebuilding it, charging you and know that it wouldn't be up to snuff. If they had rebuilt your ac compressor they would have pulled the pins out any way making it either a first or second gen. My only experience with 134a compressors was in my 92 GTO clip. The only difference was which side the pin was on. I assume that is true for all 134a compressors.

They are supposed to be getting a shipment in of them tonight or tomorrow, so they will still be able to help me out. I just wonder why they can't rebuild one after its been rebuild once. Doesn't make sense to me.

When I talked to them about mine they told me that often they find rust or too much wear. Now I'm thinking that this could be the case with mine. It still works and doesn't leak but just doesn't create the pressure differential it used too. Especially under lower rpms. I guess it's like you could re-wring a piston but if the cylinder has to much wear it still won't make the right compression.

how much is it if you don't have one to send them.?
