The bigger the fan/nerd you are the more the places this movie takes the series history and throws it out the window will piss you off.

I hated the obvious sjw agenda. all white men are bad and have to go. only women are competent. Rey is an Uber Jedi Master despite no training what so ever. feminazi random Admiral of Rebels. zombie deep space thawed Leia. Luke trying to be a child murderer just like his dad but not going "Dark Side" as a result. light speed space ship missile weapons. having said weapon piloted by a person instead of a droid or similar. first time anyone has thought of this?

but I still enjoyed it because it's still sorta Star Wars.

I'm actually a little surprised that people aren't crying about the racism and sexism in the movie. I'll keep it short:
the only black guy is a bumbling idiot that screws up everything. then the one other one they had(Forrest Whittaker) gets killed off half way through the film. but to be fair so did everyone else so whatever.

the Rebels which is almost completely made up of so called "minorities" get their ass kicked in each movie. but in the original series they all end in a victory of sorts. Ep.4 Destroying the Death Star, Ep5. All the escape ships getting away from Hoth and escaping Vader at the end. Ep 6. the Emperor is killed, another Death Star destroyed, Vader comes back to the light side and the Alliance wins the day. all led by a couple of white guys. circle back today and the writers/producers got the current cast getting their collective asses kicked almost the whole movie.

I could go on but what for.

The conflicting RT scores shouldn't surprise anyone. I've pointed out to numerous people the scores of STD (Star Trek Discovery) vs. those of The Orville. The Audience score is really the only score that matters. Anyone who has been paying attention for the last couple years knows to safely ignore the critics' rating.

As a trek fan who has seen EVERY SINGLE FREAKING EPISODE OF EVERY SINGLE TREK SHOW, PLUS EVERY MOVIE, AND QUITE A FEW OF THE FAN-MADE MOVIES/SHOWS...I can emphatically tell you that The Orville is the true heir-apparent to Trek. STD is STINO; The Orville is Trek purged of the references & lore from the actual Trek universe--so as not to incite copyright infringement. The fans get it. The critics do not.

So when I see very similar scores on both sides for TLJ and STD...I'm vividly aware that those ratings are most likely accurate.

So why the huge box office? Well it's SW. Disney hasn't bankrupted the universe yet, so they're still milking it dry. E8 would be a middle of the road action/adventure flick at best--if it didn't have the SW tag. You have LEGIONS of people who will go watch it--SIMPLY BECAUSE IT'S SW. That said, they don't have to go back, they don't have to recommend it, and they don't have to like it. I don't think this is a case of review bombing. This--to me--is the logical result of fans PISSED because Disney took the piss on them.

I was watching a review of Firefly recently. 10+ years removed, this show still holds up remarkably well. Rebirthing it or adding on to it...would inevitably cheapen it. It's sad that we didn't get more, but it's also true that it didn't overstay its welcome. And this is precisely what has been happening with Wars. The Wars universe has exceeded its welcome by decades--and it's not getting better. Apart from a few fleeting "pander to the crowd" moments like Yoda fighting Dooku and Vader in full-ass-kick mode in R1...there's really nothing truly Wars left. Disney is pissing on its desiccated remains.

Christ, explain to me in what rational universe does any critic give TLJ > 90% rating? Without that blessed SW tag, this movie would struggle to get a 5/10.
