Have receipts for the work drawn up, and keep everything in a folder. including the parts you purchased, etc.

I have $5000 worth of additional coverage on Hans' 91 base model 3000GT (satin black, 3.5L, etc). because we both know damn well, if anything happens, they'll total it out. It costs pennies on the dollar for the additional aftermarket coverage. We filed a claim when someone tried breaking into Hans' car and pried the door handle, scratched it, dented it, destroyed the door lock/ hinge, etc. The cost of the estimated repairs was nearly half of the book value on the car. We got no hassle at all from the insurance company.

    It's worth looking into.

and you're telling me that even though USAA, haggarty, state farm, etc won't allow me to have a "declared value policy" on my daily driver, that progressive is willing to? i find that impossibly hard to believe. unless i'm willing to drive it less than 3-5k miles per year---OR have it registered as a collector vehicle, it won't get covered. the best USAA would tell me was "hang on to your reciepts, and present them if you ever get in an accident".

no mileage limitation, and they offer a declared/accepted value. if/when you make a claim, they said to be sure to have receipts/documentation of the work performed and the parts added that justify the value. I called and had a long discussion with the woman to make sure I was understanding it properly. Maybe give them a call and ask them for yourself?

best part is, they also offer storage insurance. with the additional $5k in coverage, it costs me $90/6 months on the satin black 3000gt for just comprehensive insurance.

They were the only insurance company that offered this type of coverage that I found, which is why I stuck with Progressive. It was also the easiest claim I ever filed. They sent an adjuster out the second day after I called, and he printed a check for us right on the spot, and said to call if there needed to be any additional work done, and they'd issue a supplement check no problem.

the pricing I found to be very similar to the hagerty pricing, but Progressive charges monthly (hagerty charges yearly), and they don't have mileage limitations, etc.

got another question about progressive. do they allow MORE than $5,000 of additional coverage? i just checked KBB. my car is worth ~$3700 on paper (base model). a same-year vr4, identical miles is worth $5500 (which mine essentially is, minus the mtx). problem is, i also have wheels, suspension, exhaust, bumpers, etc. wheels/tires alone are worth 2k used EASILY. so even if i were to accept +5k as the value of my car (and $8700 is low-balling it a bit)--that leaves me with ZERO room to do any additional modifications (paint, turbos, etc).

    any thoughts?

I had a 30k policy on my Spyder, book value was like 10k or something silly. Keep your receipts for the work done and the parts installed. It's insured under an agreed value. You can call them and they can explain it to you better than I could.

thanks, em. that's good to hear. i'll definitely keep what reciepts i can. i have so much shit from PM's, paypal, etc. lol!

yeah, when i started doing the math...i realized that if my "project" was completed right now, i'd have a vehicle with a cash-in-hand value of 20-25 grand and a VIN number worth less than 4 grand. i have enough heartburn as it is.

    p.s.

i just might have to have an estimator come out, once it's all said and done.
