You're really going to compare a movie set in WWII to a game who's only premise it seems is to wander around executing people? Good one.

I'm just saying the violence in the movie is on par with the violence shown in the trailer. It's a video game. It's not something I am going to get too worked up about. I used to go around just shooting people and I would "hide out" in the one hotel in GTA and shoot as many cops as I could for 30 minutes to an hour.

I'd say most of us that ever played GTA did almost exclusively that. But at least GTA had other premises you were 'suppose' to do. This eludes to having just the one: killing as many people as possible. Like I said, I could careless about violent video games (or movies etc for that matter), this one just looks ridiculous and hopefully when it's released the market will reflect that - but I won't hold my breath.

Fuck, man, that's got nothing on postal. You haven't lived until you've used a cat as a silencer, seen Gary Coleman have a shootout with the cops, and threw molotov cocktails at screaming jihadists.

That said, I agree with vantage, the PREMISE is the difference. Postal--like it's less violent cousin GTA--is a sandbox game. And yes, there is a reward for completing the game without any kills. There's more to it than just a murderous rampage--although it is kinda fun to play on "Heston Mode" where random gunfights break out in the streets between NPC's all the damn time.

I think that's a key difference in my mind. Pornography, video games, movies, music, etc--these can all have legitimate consumers; people who use them for recreational purposes. For example, a married couple can frequently enjoy watching adult movies together for heightened stimulation. Those same movies can also be used negatively as a sexual deviant (read: sociopath) can use them as encouragement for his own perversions. And the same holds true for video games & the rest. I guess what I'm saying here is that I can see where a game like Postal or GTA has recreational value--silly, unrealistic and perhaps ultra-violent--but still recreational. And the game is not focused on simply slaughtering everything in sight (although I have no problem with games like DOOM where that is still the purpose).

Don't get me wrong, I'm about as pro free-speech as one can be. And even I have to question the premise of a game like that. Now if they changed the locale of the game from suburban America to Levant--and you were slaughtering ISIS members over there, I'd probably be less offended by it--but then again I'm rather theocRACIST in that way. Still, either is a far cry from the requisite level of satire that I would like to see in a game of that sort. The humor in Postal is what balances much of the game out; you know the game doesn't take itself seriously, and would in fact mock people who did take it seriously...if it could.
