My thought on refs influencing game is this, as long as they are consistent throughout the game then it doesn't matter. If they are calling ticky-tack penalties the whole game, then they don't need to keep the flags in their pants just because their is less than 2 minutes left. At the same time if they haven't been calling "close ones" the entire game then they shouldn't start at the end of the game.
The main thing about officials deciding games that pisses me off is when they won't change a call on the field at the end of a game, such as a dropped TD pass, not breaking the plane, etc. Its like they are afraid of making that decision. Situations that come to mind is when Stanford clearly broke the plane against Notre Dame in OT and the refs refused to reverse it because it was against "Gods Team." Another one was the WVU vs TCU game when TCU went for 2 and the ball clearly touched the ground, but the refs didn't reverse it.
As for the Title game, I have no clue because I didn't watch. In fact I didn't watch a single bowl game this year.
