Not really. Our base run plays are HB dive, speed sweep, and QB option, but we run those plays in multiple formations (single back, two-back, and three-back). The single and two-back formations force the defense to respect the pass which we are much more likely to do than GT. There's a false premise that we don't pass much because we can't but really it's that we don't pass because we haven't needed to lately. That's really scary for our last opponents because we've been able to keep most of the playbook tucked away. Marshall is only an average passer but he will beat you badly with his arm if you don't respect it. Our WR Sammie Coates has the most YPC in the nation right now because of Marshall's arm.

I would worry about needing to pass and not having the in game experience to do so when it matters. ok most YPC but on how many catches? that kinda matters.

over 10 games? eh' that ties him for #252 in receptions. hardly what I'd call a good sample size for "what if they threw it more". it's tough for a D and a DC ro get a feel for tendencies of a QB/WR when they don't do it much it's also tough for the QB/WR to get into a good rythm and know each other.

AU gets behind by 2 scores or whatever, time is ticking down and they have to throw to hurry down the field and I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see mistakes or turnovers.

You have to look in the games where we HAVE thrown it more to really get an appreciation for it. The past 2-3 games we've played have skewed the data a bit. Coates has caught maybe 5-6 passes over the past three games and in another wasn't even thrown to (Western Carolina).

still it's not even in the same hemisphere as the, lets say top 100.

after thinking about it I think we might have a better shot than I think. we've put everyone in more 3rd and longs(5,7,8) than I care to think. those have been lost on passes. I swear I don't know how many 3rd-15 get picked up on a 10 yard slant or whatever. stopping the run on 1st & 2nd has for the most part gone pretty well. that's where AU wins or loses imo. if we can force 3rd and long they're in trouble. if not time of possession is going to look mighty lopsided.

Is he connecting on deep balls or is he a YAC guy?

For comparison, Texas (another run heavy team) -

(#4 receiver / deep ball weapon since OU) Marcus Johnson 14 rec 315 yds 22.5 ypc 2 td
And he's got dreads so I think that means +10 across the board.

But 648 yards would lead Texas. Jaxon Shipley leads the team with 46 rec, 527 yds.

    So I'm impressed
