CTEK Battery Chargers/Tenders at Maximal

If you store your car for the winter you need one of these. Been using something similar to these for a few years but am picking up a CTEK this year due to the extra features. They're all cheaper than a new battery...

All are designed to use with 6v, 12v, and your AGM batteries (Optima, Odyssey, etc) and use smart charging technology to make sure you don't overcharge your battery. These things are pretty amazing as for example, the 7002 does the same thing as other cart-mounted chargers do, but in a case the size of a small shoe.

The CTEK .8 is great for maintaining your already charged battery. It's also designed to charge lawn mower/ATV/motorcycle batteries but will charge a car battery as long as you're patient.

Take a step up and get the 4.3 that allows you to not only maintain but charge automotive batteries. Great all around charger and the most popular of the ones listed. Has 4 stages of charging too.

The 7002 gives you all the features of the 4.3 but also allows you to "recondition" batteries that can bring a completely dead battery back to life most of the time. It also gives you a few more status LED's so you can see what level the battery is charged to.

What Coop said. The .8 will take some time where as the 7002 will probably do it overnight at most.

Regular battery chargers will work to a point with AGM but they don't have the "13.6v float" charge that they like and apparently it's bad for them without it. Most high-end chargers have the setting so for the 4.2 to have it at $60, it's pretty affordable to get the right one.

Well I'm glad I saw this thread. I bought a $10 HF float charger for my car this winter (just unplugged the negative terminal last year). Says you can't use it on AGM batteries.

I was just wondering how long because my dad has a really old cart charger that you can adjust. Anywhere from trickle charge to "boost" which basically jumps the car. I'm guessing these won't jump a car? Not a deal breaker but that would be nice.

I store my car at my Dad's house so I guess I would use the charger there but it would be nice to have one with me as well to charge batteries if they die..

Yeah, the amperage of these are fairly low so I doubt it will on a fully dead battery. If your battery is close to starting it should do the trick though.

Got the 7002, and a .8

Tore into the 7002 today and it looks legit! Hooked her up on recondition mode. It analyzes the battery, and adjusts the voltage, and amperage to match the condition of the battery. After reading the manual, if there is anything a battery needs to get healthy this thing does it! Woot!

I spend no less that 400 a year on batteries for the 4x4, lawnmower, RV$, cars/truck. Been an idiot procrastinating on getting something like these.
