    TT Conversion Questions

Okay, today my car went under the knife and I took off all of the parts that needed to be taken off for the TT conversion. Tomorrow is the day for the installation of the TT parts. I can't seem to figure out some things though and I will be very appreciative if someone could point me in the right direction.

First, I can't figure out what goes into two holes of the TT water housing. It looks like some sensors could bolt up there, but I am not sure. If it is sensors, do I need them for the conversion or do I just plug the holes with bolts? Here is a picture of the water housing where you can see the two holes next to one another on the right side of the picture:

Second, I am having hard time figuring out what oil line bolts where on the TT oil housing. I am trying to figure out which one bolts to the uppermost hole of the housing when installed on the car and looked from the front (the one that is closest to the manifold). I will try to find a picture where it is visible and will post it here for reference.

Third, one of the studs on one of the turbos is broken in half and even though it looks as if there is more than enough room for a nut to bolt on it, I am not sure if I should do that or replace the stud. What do you think?

Any help is appreciated since I am trying to finish the install by tomorrow evening, because I cannot use the garage after that, until next weekend... Thanks!

    Hi,

There are two sensors that go in there and one blanking plug. Just remove the sensors from your old one and fit them in the TT one. Both are for the cooling system...one for the stock guage and the other for the ECU.

If you are using the stock oil cooler and lines they are shaped in a mannor that you cant get them wrong. The ends are angled slightly and have locating pins sticking out. I dont believe it matters which way round anyways as the oil only flows through the cooler.

Turbo stud i would have drilled out and replaced now....The last thing you want is an exhaust leak and have to take all that off again to fix it. Now is the time

    Cheers

Thanks my friend! I figured out the water housing holes, I also realized that I never got an oil cooler for some reason... I triple-checked several parts lists and still didn't see it listed for the TT conversion for some reason. Either that or I am officially blind... Anyway, is it possible to plug the holes for the lines that go to the oil cooler for now so I can finish the conversion today and install the oil cooler later or that's completely out of the question? I remember that someone had done it before and it was fine, but how hard is it to add the cooler when all other parts are on the car?

    Thanks gor uou help!

you can run without the cooler if you not tracking the car etc, obviously the ideal is to get a cooler on there before really pushing the car. To fit the cooler and lines later you only have to remove the wheel arch liner and plastic cover on the side of the engine/wheel arch. Not a bad job at all.

Are you still on the 10:1 engine or have you fitted a TT engine ? I have had my 10:1 running for a couple of months now and its great with the short NA AWD box !!!

    Good luck

Yes, I am going to leave the car 10:1. I will use a set of brand new TT pistons and rings I have on my old block and will keep it as a spare...

By the way, do I use the N/A fuel pressure regulator or do I need the TT one?

Another question I have is, how do I hook up the vacuum lines to the waste gates with the N/A throttle body? I am using a TT upper manifold if that matters...

You can use either although the NA one will give you slightly higher base pressure so a little more head room on you injectors if pushing the boost

What are you using for boost control ? I have hooked up my waste gates togther into my EBC. So i have the 'IN' coming from the back of the TT plenum and the 'OUT' going to the waste gate lines.

    Hope that helps.

Well, I am going to run waste gate boost for now. I was told that I do not need a boost controller at this stage, but I may eventually want one in the future, if I decided to up the boost.
