My cousin was telling me about his neighbors this weekend. He said the kids are always outside playing. He was sitting out on his porch and the kids were playing kickball or something andthe ball kept going over the fence into his yard. One of the kids apologized for the ball going into his yard and he told them, "I don't care one bit. You are outside playing and that's all that matters."

Just in case you weren't feeling too old today .........

The people who are starting college this fall were born in 1992.
I haven't read through this thread all the way so I don't know if anyone said this yet, but this email seems to be about 2 or 3 years old. Most people don't start college when they're 20.

In my area, the school buses pretty much pick them up and drop them off directly in front of their houses. I'm so glad my commute doesn't involve any back-roads anymore, because I used to get stuck behind a school bus that would make 3 stops on the same road, all within a 500 foot stretch of road, and two of those stop were like 4 houses down from each other. Bunch of paranoid pansies.

    +1.

Safety is one thing, but they treat all kids these days as if they're handicapped...net result is stunted development.

Idiots, simply by being idiots, seem capable of achieving randomly bad things that are beyond the imaginings of sensible people.

I remember FULL service gas stations, when you got gas, you also got your windows washed, your tires checked, fluids under the hood checked and topped off and then they thanked you for stopping by.

    And we had a milkman...

Never had a milkman, but my uncle was a post man that actually walked to each individual house, instead of going to these new fangled multi-boxes...

...and i actually worked part time in one of them "full service" stations back in the 80's

I miss Looney Toons. How in the world they think those cartoons are worse than the anime garbage is beyond me.

We currently live about 3 blocks from the middle school and I have no intentions of ever letting my kids walk there or to high school.

I'm referring more to the train of thought that leads to outlawing 'tag' at recess, Isaac, but I take your point.
