You shoot people. SWTOR is an MMORPG. There is going to be a lot of people running around doing quests, getting gear, doing dungeons ect. That formula has been around long before WoW was ever out. Tanks tank... healers heal... dps does dps... Classic MMO roles. All preceding WoW. Hell, they go back to tabletop Dungeons and Dragons. WoW uses the formula because... its the formula for MMO games. So, No, SWTOR is not a "watered down WoW Clone". It does, however, use classic MMO gameplay. The world and lore is much more engaging than WoW however do to the Mass Effect style questing system where literally every quest you do has a cut scene and different outcomes based on your selections in the conversation. I definetly wouldn't call it a "grind fest" as it has the most immersive questing system of any MMO currently out. There is also a different storyline for every character type, so you can play the game through 4 times and have a different experience each time.

There is a respawn timer in the "BGs". Not sure what your mean there. The walk back to the battle is also pretty short. Keeps you in game play constantly. I'm also curious what your definition of "competitive raiding" is.

Being somebody who has been playing MMOs consistantly since the days Everquest first came out I can pretty comfortably say that SWTOR is a healthy competitor for WoW. It definetly needs a little polish, but they have laid out a great groundwork for an amazing game.
I'm not referring to the formula. Of course it will have the same basic formula as other MMOs. But whether you want to admit it or not, it IS a watered down WoW clone, and, as much as I wish it would be successful, it won't be anywhere near the game that WoW was and still is (even though WoW is not nearly as good as it once was). The only thing that will prop this game up are the Lucas nerds.

Coming from somebody who is basing their opinion on some Youtube videos, your opinion means very little.

I hope they get rid of the global cooldown timer, makes the combat soooo slow compared to what I am used to.

What games are you use to playing? I can't wait until they start releasing some patches and giving the game a little more polish. I believe they are coming out with a big patch pretty soon to address a bunch of issues.

I played eq2 for 4 years in a top 10ww guild, that game is amazingly well done (graphics still make a 5k computer cry) but the developers have made some really poor decisions in the last couple years, i got turned off and quit. The combat is very good though, probably 5x faster than WoW, upper level raiding is incredibly difficult. One screw up from one person (being a half second slow on a cast) can destroy your chances of killing a raid mob.

That is good they are on top of it, I have some friends from work who are sci fi geeks and they are trying to get me to play, lol. All they do is talk about it.

I played Everquest from release until Everquest2 came out. I am a HUGE Everquest fan. I did really like EQ2, but something about the game turned me off and I eventually quit playing. I don't even remember what it was anymore.

I could see how going from Everquest2 to SWTOR would be a big transition. It's certainly much more WoW feeling than EQ2. The storyline is so immersive and the world interesting though that SWTOR feels more like an MMO version of Mass Effect, but in the Starwars universe. It really is a fresh concept on an MMO and definetly worth at least giving a shot.

Reading comprehension fail. Please read again. These are not Youtube videos, these are live video streams with commentary from a wide variety of players from beginners to avid MM players to everywhere in between.

We will agree to disagree on the subject, but don't write my comments off as some WoW fanboi. Trust me, im far from it.

I'm judging you on talking down on something you have never tried. Watching videos is cool and all, but game play is everything. Without experiencing the game for yourself, everything you have said(besides being baseless and wrong) is meaningless.

You are correct, however, that I have written your comments off.

    Agree to disagree though.

I didn't really like what I saw in the videos, but when I played it, it was great.

We follow the earth. The earth follows the stars. The stars know their way and though the body dies. The stars will remain, like the waves of the sea and restless slate.

To be honest I'm scared to drop $50 plus $15 to see for myself. After my experience with WAR I made up my mind that I'd never try out another MMO again until it was proven. I sincerely hope that SW ends up being better and look forward to giving it a try if it turns out to be worth a damn.
