In what ways? I'm genuinely asking. I played WoW for six years at a high level and though I haven't played SWTOR personally, I have watched many people streaming the game play live, and I gotta say it looks like a watered down WoW clone. The lack of a respawn timer in BGs is overwritten by travel time to get to battle after death. Mechanics between the two games are extremely similar. Class roles are the same except that taunts from tanks have mitigation effects.

Of course im focusing mainly on pvp because it was the focus of my gameplay in WoW, even though I did raid competitively through the first half of Wrath, but PvE looks like a grindfest in terms of leveling.

Honestly I just don't see this game being any better or even as good as WoW.

The videos I've watch have led me to a mixed opinion. Of course, my opinion is an uniformed one until such time that I actually play the game but I refuse to spend $50 on the game only to dump it a month or two later. I've done that in the past and it was ridiculous. I think that what many people are focusing on is the Bioware staple of storyline, and in this game each and every character gets their own storyline, a-la Mass Effect from what I can see.

Like Rift, Conan, and Warhammer Online before them I don't see SWTOR sustaining its current peak subscription numbers much beyond February, mainly because that is when Diablo III comes out.

People keep throwing around the term "WoW clone" around. All mmo's have a similar game style. That is like calling Battlefield 3 and Modern Warefare clone. They are shooter games. You shoot people. SWTOR is an MMORPG. There is going to be a lot of people running around doing quests, getting gear, doing dungeons ect. That formula has been around long before WoW was ever out. Tanks tank... healers heal... dps does dps... Classic MMO roles. All preceding WoW. Hell, they go back to tabletop Dungeons and Dragons. WoW uses the formula because... its the formula for MMO games. So, No, SWTOR is not a "watered down WoW Clone". It does, however, use classic MMO gameplay. The world and lore is much more engaging than WoW however do to the Mass Effect style questing system where literally every quest you do has a cut scene and different outcomes based on your selections in the conversation. I definetly wouldn't call it a "grind fest" as it has the most immersive questing system of any MMO currently out. There is also a different storyline for every character type, so you can play the game through 4 times and have a different experience each time.

There is a respawn timer in the "BGs". Not sure what your mean there. The walk back to the battle is also pretty short. Keeps you in game play constantly. I'm also curious what your definition of "competitive raiding" is.

Being somebody who has been playing MMOs consistantly since the days Everquest first came out I can pretty comfortably say that SWTOR is a healthy competitor for WoW. It definetly needs a little polish, but they have laid out a great groundwork for an amazing game.
