Insurance comapanies who cover engine modifications?

I'm currently with Geico and the only modifications they'll cover are basically exterior and interior mods . The bulk of my mods are to the engine and drivetrain. Are there any companies who will cover that area?

I'm just thinking if the car burns to the ground and they cut me a check for KBB value I will have taken a serious loss. Would I need to have it appraised and insured under some special class of vehicle?

Anyone with experience in this area's help would be greatly appreciated.

Progressive allows for aftermarket coverage, for body work, performance, etc. You need to provide receipts/documentation in the event of a claim, so, just keep your paperwork, etc.

You can add up to $5000 worth of aftermarket coverage, or insure it based on agreed value (Your car + mods, what it's worth). I'd also recommend an appraisal.

I've had progressive for a few years now with the aftermarket coverage. Had one claim when someone tried breaking into Hans' satin black car, super fast, easy to deal with, I really have no complaints at all about them. I haven't had to file a claim that took into account the extra coverage though (fortunately), so, I really can't comment on how that gets handled.

But that coverage option is why I switched from Esurance to Progressive.

I had grundy world wide they cover everything and base it on a agreed value. I would only get them if you don't DD your car because it collectors insurance so it has milage restriction but I paid $150 a year for it on my 94 Stealth

Definately Progressive is a good company. Never had an issue on claims.

Since they cover aftermarket thats a big bonus.

Looks like a viable option, just did a quote on their site and the price isn't too bad for the agreed value with mods. I'll have to look into them further, thanks.

The only thing that worries me is when it comes time to make a claim, will they cover anything I tell them is a modification? Or are they going to be selective on which mods to cover (that's the problem with Geico's aftermarket coverage).

That is super inexpensive, what kind of mileage limitations? I DD my car in the warm months and only put 2500 miles on it for the year.

with that kind of insurance (Hagerty, American Collectors, Grundy, etc), you are not allowed to use it for daily driving, to and from work, errands, etc. That's one of the first questions they ask you. Progressive has no mileage or usage restrictions, and for the additional coverage, it's really not much more expensive than regular insurance.

Allstate also offers aftermarket coverage. Just like progressive, you have to have receipts for all mods.

Don't know about Grundy, but American Collectors Insurance requires your car to be 15 years old and the driver to have 10 years of driving experience (with a valid license the whole time).

We have American Collectors insurance and our mileage is either 2500 or 3500, but you can choose the allotted mileage.
