I have one of these. The canal for my spinal cord in my neck had become dangerously small, so I had seven vertebrae in my neck cut open and a large cage installed. I have to wear mine for 4 hours a day. It uses ultrasonic waves to promote blood flow and thus bone growth in the affected area. The bone has to grow in order to stabilize the implanted cage. If bone growth is inadequate, the hardware will be/get loose and the surgery will need to be re-done. That is what happened to my wife. Now, two and a half years after the "repair surgery" to fix the loose original hardware, she is pretty much totally disabled. And she only had one vertebrae fused.

Wear your stimulator. Pray for good bone growth.

I have the Physio-Stim...which uses PEMF (Pulsed ElectroMagnetic Field). The guy was saying that this one, which costs $5,000) has one of the highest frequencies on the market. I'm not sure if it will work. The guy said to use it for 3 hours straight to get the best results. My clavicle is just messed up....I just don't have the confidence this will work...I mean its been almost 5 months since the accident...

In 2005 I had a total left shoulder replacement. I had a mastectomy in 2007 (breast cancer). Ruptured intestine/septic abdomen surgery in 2009, colostomy reversal 2 1/2 months later. Now the spinal surgery. My wife has had 6 back surgeries in the last 3 years. She has an implanted spinal cord stimulator that does nothing but cause her pain. The Drs. told her it was a very high probability (near 90%) that the stimulator would give her at least a 50% reduction in pain. Nope. Nothing but excruciating pain from the surgeries and residual pain from the two leads and control unit permanently installed in her back. They won't even consider taking them out. And between us we've had tens units, a variety of stimulators and now this bone growth unit. I think most of these things are hit or miss, but the Dr. is going to prescribe them and require you to use them so they can protect themselves from lawsuits. And I promise you wearing this thing four hours a day in a real pain. And my cell phone clicks if I use it while I've got the stimulator on.

Ouch. you both have been through a lot.
