Cool Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes (possible spoiler alert)

    who saw it?
    what did you think?

Personally, as a long time big fan of the franchise, i loved it and thought it was an excellent take on the original. WAY better than Tim Burton's take.
the story line was realistic too. like the way that events unfolded you could see that happening in real world as a possibility.
I still watch the originals (tv series included) for a good story, but im really looking forward to where this new (highly possible) series takes the story.

Well I thought it was good. I only saw the 2001 movie though before this. Some scenes were a bit ridiculous though.

    Spoiler:

When Cesar was first brought into that captivity... It was a bit over the top how "wild" the other chimps were. Then in the play area, they gave them too many human characteristics. It literally looked like a human prison.

    Other than that, good movie.

Question.... at the end when the virus was spreading among the humans, did that also mean it was spreading to the apes/chimps/monkeys? I assume so.

the scene in the San Bruno Primate Facility was basically a homage to the cage filled environment from the original POTA ( don't worry about the 2001 POTA, thats just a fun movie to show off special effects). the reason the apes retaliated to Caesar the way they did, was because he was an outsider chimp, not to mention he wore clothes, and so instantly they were going to attack him especially Rocket (alpha chimp grey in colour) who had to uphold his dominate status amongst the other chimps and make an example of Caeser. Also alot of those Chimps were not just wild I'd imagine, like Maurice the Orangutan who was an ex circus ape.

answer to your question about the ALZ-113 virus: No the apes don't get affected by the virus because their immune system is stronger than ours and accepts the virus as a cure. whereas the virus is fatal to humans and spreads as an epidemic, leaving an opening for the now intellegent apes to take over the planet. trust there will be sequels.

in the original POTA series, a similar strain of virus wipes out the entire canine and feline species and as a result, humans take on apes as pets, then to servants, who get trained by an ape name Caesar also (no relation) to fight and rebel, thus making humans submit to the now dominate apes.

What I was saying was did the "virus" spread killing off humans while making the apes "infected" but smarter. I know their immune system could fight it off, but is that how the intelligence spread, or did they actually spread it via direct contact with the alz-113?

    oh sorry,
I'm assuming it would be a combo of your theory and basic breeding, as Caesar was born smart due to his mother having been treated with ALZ112.
He then got even smarter with the ALZ113 making his children destined to inherit the intellegence.

well it's not a remake or the same movie, but a re-imagined story using elements from the original.
as someone who has seen the original's countless times (currently watching them again with the gf) i can surely say there is only a few similarities in the stories.
This movie is based on the start of what WILL be the POTA. the original Pentology was a story that spanned over 1000's of years (ape time)
