feels pretty smooth to me; but mine is 100% stock, afaik. again, it's a w4a33...and probably from a montero--possibly a galant.

It's actually my 4-3 downshift... every once in a while it just really jolts on that downshift, and the frequency is really random but usually around 20-35 mph downshift from 4-3, and might happen once a week or so... just hope it's not destructive... i've been over 1000 miles now and she's still 100% so far so good!
Can somebody tell me where to look on my tranny to make sure which one mine is? When I bought mine it had just had an oddball JDM motor and tranny put in it. It HAD a 2.5 DOHC in it. I have since rebuilt a 3.0 DOHC and installed it a yr. ago and have had no problems. But, I've never touched the tranny YET. :)
no way of knowing for sure what trans you have. if it's fwd, it's a f4a33; but all that means is that it has the f4a33 internals. electronics is another matter entirely.
OK, thanks for the info.
Should I get a shift kit or this thing?

I read on 3si that this is supposed to be better but I'm not sure.
i'm not really sure how an "electronic only" gadget is going to modify "shift feel". sure it can alter shift rpms, but that's about it. velocity of the shift has to do with physical upgrades to the valve body; not fancy electronics.
at least that's my $.02
I was thinking about installing the shift kit, but gave up on it for now, because my transmission shifts perfectly as it is, even after I replaced the fluid. However, I ordered a shift box and paddle shifters and they just arrived in the mail! Time to install them... :)
don't underestimate teh shift kit. it makes a big difference.
I am not underestimating it, but I like doing one thing at a time... I just completed a TT conversion, so I will let the car run like that for a while and then I will do some more upgrades. Shift kit is high on the list! By the way, where can I tap into shift solenoid "A" and shift solenoid "B" for the shift box I am installing? Where are those solenoids located exactly?
