Well more accomplished today. Cleaned up the transmission a bit, pulled some of the bolts out of the transmission and then cleaned them up and re-inserted them back in the transmission 1 by 1. Cleaned out the bell housing as much as I could and pulled the fulcrum out, cleaned it up. Greased up the fulcrum detent and installed back in the transmission. I removed the old input/pilot bearing, greased the splines and the shaft for the pilot bearing. Installed the pilot bearing clip to the fulcrum and it's ready to go. Installed the motor mounts to the engine and the transmission. Added some other stuff to the engine that is needed and installed the brackets for attaching to the engine hoist. Will install the transmission to the new engine once it's off the stand and has a flywheel and pressure plate attached along with the clutch. I need to order a new transmission fill plug since the one that is on the transmission is chewed up a bit. Will snap some photos of the transmission attached to the new engine.
Well let's fast forward a bit to the end result of the weekend's work. I attached the flywheel. clutch disc with alignment tool, pressure plate to engine. I got the transmission on the new engine and used my new transmission bolts that I picked up for the reinstall. The transmission was on the engine pretty quickly. Then I set out to work on putting the engine into the car.

The solid engine mounts were a little tough to work with, but the key I soon found out was to loosen up the bolts to the mounts a bit so I can move them around then position the engine in place, run the bolt through each of the mounts, then tighten the engine onto the mounts. Then go back and tighten all of the mounts into the frame.
Here's a wider shot of the engine as I started working through hooking stuff up:

Here's the mess on the firewall. Transmission isn't perfectly clean, but I am not that worried about it being super clean:

Then I ripped out the old engine harness:

Installed new Megasquirt ECU and new harness under passenger floor tray:
Then I worked on installing the new power steering cooler:

Then I stopped working on it. I need to look at wiring harness options as I am trying to minimize the wiring.
Nice progress!!
You go, Kev. :)
Well lately I have been tinkering with the wiring situation. I got some of the engine harness wired up. TPS, IAC, IAT, Injectors are tested, working on Spark and knock sensor. Found out I need to eliminate the PTU and have the Megasquirt drive the ignition coil directly. Also found out I need to either find a scanmaster 3 that can do analog output to a pin on the Megasquirt ECU so it can count knock.
I am going to be making a lot of updates pretty soon as I have been working on the wiring. I am rebuilding the existing harness and moving wiring into the car to then start converting it over to resettable breakers and hooking up switches to various components that are needed. I am also building the actual schematic that the car will be. That will be posted in the next couple days as I finish it up.
Well, no updates as of late other than the second SOHC engine is gone and I now have more room to start making more progress.
Nothing new yet, but the weather is looking good this weekend so I might get some garage time! I am waiting for some flanges from Columbia River Mandrel Bending so I can start building a mock manifold set. Once the mock up is done, then I can have it made.
Knocksense came in
Manifold, T4 flanges and vband clamps come in tomorrow.
Let me know how the knocksense works out, Kev.
Ordering Megasquirt MS2X Injector and Fueling board this Friday. This will provide more injector banks and allow for sequential and semi-sequential firing capability. This will also allow interfacing with the Hall Sensor in the Distributor.
Really hoping for a break in the weather as I don't have a heater in the garage. Good news is I will have a TON of room in the polebarn as my parents are finally moving out this weekend.
Weather has broken a bit and I am starting to get some motivation on this project.
I made a decision that I want to repaint the car, so I prepped the front bumper and I am starting to work on the fenders and getting them prepped.
Still waiting for the MS2X injector module.
so instead of getting the car running, you're gonna continue to tear it apart to paint it?
does not compute, lol
I will get it going before the paint, just prepping for paint. Fenders are already off the car. Side skirts and stuff are easy enough to take off, I won't be doing the other parts of the car yet.
I will be doing some work on it tonight after I do some yard work. I will post some progress tonight.
MS2X daughterboard showed up. Now I have 3 banks of injectors :) Time to get cracking now!
MAC Boost Control Solenoid on its way.
MAC Boost Solenoid arrived.
Sweet update. Is it running yet?
NG is only 75 days away.
Get on it dude! Make it happen!
How are things coming along?
They aren't. His build is going in reverse because of how slow progress is....
:inout:
Actually, some progress is being made, I just haven't posted in awhile because I don't get a lot of time to work on the car.
I'm curious how the exhaust is gonna get to the turbo after the 350z headers.
Project is delayed for a long while now. Roommate decided to take my doorknob off of my polebarn where my car is and either he, or someone he knows stole my turbo, ECU, and I am still sorting through other stuff that was stolen.
The eviction process has started and I am taking him to court for the damages to my home and my stolen property. Wish me luck.
Rat shit
Booo. Good luck. Assholes :(
Project is killed at this point. I am just going to get the car finished and keep it around as a track car. The new engine will be good and should hold up for a long time. The turbo part of it I will pursue later. I will get a new Megasquirt ECU and keep going with that route and get it going. I will keep my injectors and just run it on pump 92 and when I get enough time, do the turbo part at a later date. Sucks to have to do it but with parts being stolen and other stuff to take care of, this is really just a burden for me at this point.
