My OEM radio is starting to cut out when I hit a bump. Everything stays lit up, and I can hit the side of the console and it will start working again. I've pulled the unit out a couple of times now looking for a loose connection or maybe a ground or something loose, but I haven't found anything. Any other ideas?

p.s. It's a 92 VR4 with the double din AM/FM, CD player.

This is a sign that something is loose, bump brakes the connection and your "wack" reestablished it. The fun part is now finding it....it could be external or internal.

with all the varieties of radios out there why not replace it?

I have an aftermarket unit in my SL. I just got this one and like the radio controls on the wheel. If I don't find the short soon, I will have to replace the factory unit. I just thought I would try to keep this one totally stock if at all possible. I was hoping there was a common problem that occurred. That way I'd have someplace to start looking.

Understood.

You can get aftermarket radios that have a mini plug in the back, that is for retaining the steering wheel controls. Along with the radio, you would need the right adapter, just an option.

Well, I've pulled this radio out a 1/2 dozen times. This time when I took it out I pulled it apart and couldn't SEE anything wrong. But, I don't know jack about electronics. But, since I did that it hasn't cutout ANY.

That is great, something was loose.
