So you have seen them at the last few NG's on a handful of cars, as well as in the raffles at the banquet, and in even on sale at the swap meet. Well now we are listing them for sale here on 3SGTO.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l302/arcaenus/Photo0054.jpg
The purpose of this thread will be to provide information regarding the splitters, pictures of the product, and answer any questions you may have so please feel free to post.
For those that aren’t familiar with what a splitter is/does, in a nut shell it provides increased handling as well as a few other benefits. It is essentially a flat surface on the lower front of the car that reduces lift and provides down force, and the increased down force on the front tires is what improves handling.
The Morgan’s Motorsports splitter is made of a high density plastic material that is both highly durable and abrasion resistant. So you don't have to worry about bottoming out with this part installed, it will take the abuse and keep on going without cracking, deforming, etc.
The design provides function as well as form, working at speeds well above the highway limits. We have tested them on several different cars at the NG road course with great success, both in Memphis and Indianapolis. The splitter is designed such that it mounts to existing factory bolt holes on the sub-frame of our cars without obstructing access to the tow hooks, the oil pan, or the oil filter. So you won’t have to remove it to do oil changes or to strap down your car to a trailer, dyno, etc. And of course it provides some visual appeal to the car as well. This splitter is 0.5” thick providing a more substantial cosmetic effect.
Here is the rundown:
Main body - High density plastic with an Aluminum support brace. All mounting holes come pre-drilled.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l302/arcaenus/Uninstalledhardwaredistributionbyholes6.jpg
Mounting/Installation - The splitter mounts to existing bolt holes on the bottom of the car, securing to the sub-frame and the front bumper cover. For non-active aero cars the two mounting holes on the lower core support will require you drill and tap them to M8x1.25, and for active aero cars you will have to disable the front portion of the system. Additionally the front support spacer/pipe will have to be cut to length. We don’t send it pre-cut since differences in the front bumper cover require different spacer lengths.
Applications - This part bolts up to all 3/S cars except 1st gen Stealths. The bumper cover on a 1st gen Stealth is considerably shorter than the rest of the 3/S cars so it currently does not work with them. We are however looking into an option for you guys, stay tuned.
Colors – Any color so long as it’s black.
Price - $400 per splitter, mounting hardware and an installation manual included
Group Buy – If we can get orders for 6 splitters we would be able to sell them for $350. If there is sufficient interest for a group buy I will open a thread for it, just let me know.
Availability – We only have one part currently in stock and the order lead time is approximately 4 weeks.
Deposit – Since we have to manufacture these guys by hand an upfront deposit of $200 will be required on all orders, with the remaining balance being required prior to shipment.
Shipping – Unfortunately these guys are large and as such the shipping costs are not great. All of the quotes I have so far range from $100-$150 for shipping from St. Louis to the LA or Miami area, however I am working on finding a better rate.
If you are interested in ordering a splitter please feel free to shoot a pm to myself or Von, aka Xwire.
Now on to the product shots

Don't forget that they have been proven to help cooling on cars during the roadcourse, especially ones with a FMIC. IIRC it was Phil who recorded a 20*+ drop in peak coolant temps after fitment of a splitter.
Note to racers: Since these do not go past the front axle centerline, these are currently race legal for all classes that that allow splitters, and can be modified to adjust fore and aft to fit into classes that allow different lengths. In the Yellow Stealth's mounting position, you can see it meets the 0" rule and in the red 99 pic it will meet the 2" ruling.

Does this have adjustable front to rear angle? Does it drop rear to front?
As with the one I currently have you must shim the front down to get an angle that will create down force. Once you shim it down you have to fill the gap. If mounting directly to bumper without shimming you actually create lift.

The angle is controlled via the spacer you cut for the front mounting bolts, so you can create whatever angle you feel comfortable with. And if you look in the pictures you will notice a gap between the bottom front edge of the bumper cover and the splitter. The gap is usually small enough that it doesn't require filling, and the aluminum brace actually provides much of the fill that can be done.
And to increase air flow below/around an fmic we recomend bending the aluminum support so that it sits at an angle rather than perpendicular to the top surface of the splitter (details can be found in the installation manual). Between that angle and the way the splitter mounts to the subframe you funnel air directly into your condensor and radiator.

It essentially runs from the rear edge of the bumper cover across the bottom of the car. Here is a picture showing the underside back half of the splitter after being installed on a car.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l302/arcaenus/mountedbottomview.jpg
On older versions of the splitter we had a notch in the back edge that brought the center portion of the back edge in an inch or so but we have since gone to a flat back edge.
And it should be noted that we can do some custom cutting on the back edge of the splitter to clear any concerns.

To be honest we have not weighed one yet so we will check on that this weekend and post up the result. My expectation is that it will be heavier than the other splitter options on the market for our cars. We were more concerned about durability than weight when we selected the material.

You don't have to specify a model year when you order it, it is a universal fit. The only bolt holes the splitter uses on the bumper cover are the ones at the rear corners just in front of the tires which are the same on all years. And then the other mounting locations are on the sub-frame which is independent of model year.

No these are HDPC and if you have a low hanging downpipe (as I do) you only need to cut the splitter to clear it and allow a 1 inch air gap around you downpipe

The problem with the 1st gen stealths is not the mounting points, but instead the fact that the front bumper cover at the bottom is 2 inches higher and leaves a large gap between the splitter and the bumper cover. If your car has any other bumper cover BESIDES the 1st gen stealth bumper cover then it will bolt right up and look great. No matter what the car was originally. So a 1st gen stealth with a 97 3KGT front bumper cover will work fine.

Thanks for the explanation. A few more questions:
1) Has anyone compared this splitter to the aluminum one?
2) Is shipping via Greyhound freight an option since it will cut down shipping costs?
3) Are there enough people interested to get the group buy going?

How much does it weigh?
So here is a breakdown on the weight:
splitter = 27lbs
mounting hardware = 1.5lbs
Total = 28.5lbs

I forgot about Greyhound as a possible shipping option, thank you for the suggestion I will check into it.
As for a direct comparison to the Aluminum splitter, we have not had the opportunity to compare them side by side. Based on the photos I have seen the shape is similar and the parts seem to extend past the bumper cover in a comparable amount. The main differences that I am aware of is mounting style and material choice/thickness. The Aluminum splitter appears to mount primarily to the bumper cover with two bolts going into the subframe at the front jack location. This method would set the front angle of the splitter by the difference in bumper cover to subframe height. Our splitter mounts primarliy to the subframe, only attaching the bumper cover at the rear corners where it matches the subframe height. And our mounting hardware allows the user to select their desired splitter angle via the front mounting bolt spacers. I would need to see the part in person to draw any other comparisons/contrasts.
Edit: Additional info for comparing the Morgan's Motorsports Splitter the Aluminum version
Weight - the aluminum splitter was quoted as being 18lbs, so it is 10lbs lighter than ours
Tow Hook Access - the Alumnium splitter requires modification to allow for tow hook access. Our splitters come with openings for the tow hooks already cut.
So far you are the first to inquire about the group buy, so at this time we don't have enough interest. We will keep the option open though, so if you want a splitter and you are willing to wait a little to save some money we are more than happy to work with you.
And I will check with Von on the appropriate paypal address for you.

I take it you mean with a 94-96 or 97-98 bumper cover?
So far all of the 2nd gen cars it has been placed on either have 99' front end conversions or were a stealth. However for what it is worth the initial template was made using a hybrid car front end, specifically my car prior the color change and front end change. So the lines are friendly for all front bumper covers.
I will see if we can get some cars in the shop for a quick mock up install for picture purposes. This may take some time though as most of our group has either a stealth or a 99 front end.

We have not fitted the splitter on a car with a lip yet but I don't see it being an issue. Since the front mounting bolt spacing is something you get to control and the Aluminum support bracket is in a location that mounts behind the back edge of front bumper cover it shoudn't be a problem. However on lips where you dramatically extend the bottom edge of the bumper cover lower you may need to add spacers to other mounting bolts.

Picture Update - We managed to snag some pictures of the splitter on a 97 bumper. The bumper is a little rough so we do appologize for that part but the sentiment was that even with a rough bumper it would provide an accurate look at the splitter on that vintage bumper cover.

Still plan to pick one up for my 99 after my bank account absorbs the cost of my stroker and fully built heads/cams and carbonetics triple disc.
I need the additional clearance towards the bottom of the car to fit my heat exchangers for the A/W IC.

Very few cars had them in Memphis, and the only black car that would have had one would have been Von's old car. So sadly I don't think we have ever installed one on that front end.

I only lost that bumper because it made the most sense after all the damage I sustained from the accident. The bulk of the decision dealt with the headlights and not the bumper cover.

Jason is pretty much on target, the main focus of the material choice was durability so these splitters will take more than their fair share of abuse and look no worse for the wear. The material is very abrasion and impact resistant, and it will maintain its shape quite well. I have personally bottomed my splitter out on pavement and even gravel without damaging it. I even dug it in deep enough in the gravel that it literally shoveled gravel over the top. I would expect the mounting bolts to bend and the Aluminum support brace to bend prior to the splitter actually breaking.
As for ease of removal it goes on and off with 8 bolts, 4 on the corners of the bumper cover and 4 on the sub-frame. So if you need to remove it isn't tough. But it is designed such that it won't have to come off for basic maintenance and/or towing; you can still do oil changes, check and/or fill your transmission, as well as get to your front tow hooks wiht the splitter installed.

The splitters mount via the same bolt holes on the subframe from one car to the next, so the splitters all have the same physical location relative to the frame. I would have to agree that it is an optical illusion.

I hear that. same here. That would be a good thing to cut out if possible even if it was just a 2" x 2" so some sort of jack could slip in to help support the front of the car. I hate putting pressure on the sides if I can avoid it

Cutting a hole at the front jacking point wouldn't be a problem although I don't know that it would be necessary or if a low profile jack would be able to reach the jacking point with the splitter installed as it adds 4" to the front of the car. My car is running on Ksports and prior to installing the splitter my low profile jack was not long enough to reach the front jacking point as the taller non-low profile portion would always hit the bumper cover prior to the jack pad being under the jacking point. I did recently get a new 3-ton low profile jack as a wedding present that could reach the front jacking point with the splitter off, but I am not sure that even it would be long enough to reach the jacking point with the splitter on. But to be honest I have not tried.
The other thing to consider though is that the material that the splitter is made of will not crack or break if you lifted the car from the front jacking point with the splitter still installed. At worst you would leave some small indentations/witness marks in the material; and since the two bolts on the sides of the front jacking point are used for securing the splitter to the subframe, identifying the jacking point location with the splitter installed would be easy.

The short answer is yes as my car is an active aero car that had the front portion of the system deleted, but my front motor was retained so that the wing would still properly work. All you have to do is unbolt the front motor from the rest of the active aero assembly and then you may also have to relocate the front motor out of the way. I had to move my front aa motor due to my fmic. The other option would be a front active aero simulator from 3SX which should let you remove the front motor all together.

I only suggest the cut out area as another means of support, whic each person could decide if they wanted and just use a saw with a circle blade like cutting a door handle hole. But I would thik it is important not just for the guys who run the splitter right up to the bumper; rather for those that use a one inch or so spacer to funnel air. This angle difference, I would think would cause issues if directly jacked up from the front jack spot. I won't know until I see mine though

To funnel air into the condensor and radiator you don't have to space down the rear mounting points, they are still flush with the sub-frame. You just need to use the front spacer, included with the mounting hardware, and then the aluminum support brace which is normally an L-shape gets bent down at an angle. These two things provide a channel for the air passing over the top of the splitter in the middle to be funnelled up into the condensor and radiator.
Did you and Von talk about doing something different than that when he picked up your car?
If someone is planning on spacing the splitter down at the rear, which would pull it down away from the corners of the bumper cover, you would definately want to cut out the material that covers the front jacking point.

Just having the space for it to duct air up into the radiator ect.. I wasnt sure on the rear... Because I figured if the front was dropped with the spacer I figured the rear would be angled a bit because of the sturdyness of the splitter. I would have to see it I think first to truly analyze

Unless you have seen the car up on a lift it is a bit hard to visualize, but the front of the bumper cover is higher than the rear. As such you naturally get a small gap between the bottom of the bumper cover and the top of the splitter if the splitter is mounted horizontal to the frame of the car. So even at a horizontal angle, if you bend the Aluminum brace you will achieve the air funneling effect.

Well a group buy thread has been started:

But we will also make sure to grab pictures of the splitter on the 94-96 bumper as soon as the opportunity presents itself.

Just as a heads up, we will be bringing some of these to NG again this year and we will be selling them at a special NG price.
So if you want a splitter at a good discount and want to save on shipping come see us in Indy!
i REALLY want one for my car, but i won't be going to NG. can you talk baadvr4 into buying one for me?

In to express interest in a 1G Stealth splitter. Hoping to work out a deal to get my hands on a used 1G VR4 front end, for better airflow thru the FMIC, but dunno if that will ever happen or not.

Would like to get one on my Stealth Base because my undercarriage plastics are starting to age and are starting to fall off the car and I really don't feel like spending OEM prices for new undercarriage plastics.

I can suggest it but something tells me the request might be more compelling coming from you instead.

We haven't forgotten about the 1st gen stealth guys, we are planning on developing something for them but we just haven't had the time.

If anyone does ever make the time for the 1g stealth guys, it should do well. We are always left out, when it comes to lip or splitter options. I am getting my dual core fmic in the next week or two, and really would need something like this for 1) airflow to the radiator 2) the fmic's always hang out of the bottom of the 1g stealth bumpers and a splitter or lip would cover that.

You should be able to fit it in the back of the car but I think it will be a bit obtursive. I don't remember the exact dimensions so I will meausre one tomorrow night and post up the numbers. This should let you know just how well it will fit.

This is an option. The only tough part about the install is the pipe that is cut to control the angle of the splitter. We normally use a cut off saw to make quick work of this but a simple hack saw should do the trick as well.

Everything has been discussed with Chris ABM and confirmed with Von. Can't wait to have this on my car.

I was going to pick one up for IPD. Only problem is it looks like we won't make NG this year. Only way we could come would be to drive the truck and Sheri just doesn't want to do that.

I saw the thread and it makes me both sick to my stomach and puppy punching angry. Parents like that are directly responsible for blame shunting kids like that.
I measured the splitter on my car last night just in case you do make it or someone else is curious. Here are the vitals as best as I could measure them on my car in the garage.
70"x28"x0.5"
The 70" dimension would be the tough one to accomodate in a VR4 but it should fit.
