What about the Niners??? You figure Iggles will be a wild card but not make it to Wisconsin.

Steelers are actually looking pretty solid also. Next Sunday night game will be interesting.

Can't beleive Pittsburgh let that one get away. I'll never understand why a team will play defense differently in the last two minutes, than they did in the first 58.

I was not disappointed with that game. Started off a little dry and boring but delivered big time in the end. Great game.

so to recap:

-ravens sweep steelers; likely win division

-pats lose to giants: fall to 5-3

-texans are 6-3; dominating their division for the first time ever

-colts are as bad as they were prior to drafting manning; winless at 0-9

-3-way tie in the AFC west, but the broncos are NOT part of it

-lions are 6-2; yet amazingly eclipsed by an undefeated packers

-niners are somehow 7-1

...is the world ending? :suspect:

That would be interesting, we got rid of too much too fast on defense a few years ago. And we should have taken Moss back at the beginning of the season when he all but begged to come back. The Pats have made a lot of bad moves in recent years.

God did our offense shit the bed yesterday. Of the 37 points put up by the teddy bears, only 6 were the responsibility of the Lions defense. The other 31 came off turnovers and special teams. That's some kinda stat.

10-0 with three or four quarters as of today. :) My brother is a big niners fan. He keeps telling me how bad the niners would put the hurt on Green Bay. Niners have an outstanding defense, and can put up points...once they get going. However, today was Aaron Rodgers worst game of the year hands down and the Packers still put up 35 points. Can the Packers be beaten? Yup, it could happen. I don't see it happening unless the other team can put up a lot of points though.

I would be inclined to agree. If Cutler was still in or gets back in by the time the Bears play the Packers, I would say the Bears have a better shot. They've really got their act together compared to earlier in the season.

i'm also fairly certain that the defending super-bowl champs were NOT expecting to get knocked off by the worst team in the league that season. (at least they were the worst at week 12).

no, the pack won't play the colts this year. that's ok. i'm just saying that it's in colt blood to rain shitstorm on defending SB champs when the colts are 0-10. :D your question was "who can beat them?", not "who in their schedule/playoffs can beat them?"

It should be a given that you'd keep the discussion on teams who GB will actually play, just a bit irrelevent and speculative to mention Indy, especially when it appears they're throwing the season for the #1 pick.

The Lions and Bears both have good chances to knock off the Pack. The Lions beat them last season, and I think the confidence coming out of Sunday's win cupled with the home field Thanksgiving game atmosphere will certainly make this one of the better Thanksgiving games in recent history.

My prediction:
Lion 34 - Packers 28

True, but I consider Cutler being gone as a blessing (to Bears and non-bears fans alike), guy is a complete joke in my opinion.

Charles Woodson is going to have his work cut out for him, Stafford has so many targets that have been coming up big. Shoot he hit 5 different targets for TDs on Sunday, none of which were Calvin. That's just awesome.

What really saddens me, is Suh used to be a very respectable Husker player that wasn't considered "Dirtiest Player in the League" pulling this kind of shit. He was ejected from the game and got a personal foul. Expect to see a suspension as well.

maybe he's got hit in the head too much. there's sufficient evidence from autopsied former players to suggest that serious brain damage occurs with repeated hits--which can cause a variety of things including hyper-aggressiveness.

TonyM
11-26-2011, 05:51 PM
No excuse for what Suh did, however, it wasn't like he was unprovoked as he was getting pushed around by some Packers. I expect a hefty fine at the least and a game or two at most. Worst part is that play lost the game for us for sure. Had GB stopped 3rd and goal so they get a FG and you're only down 10-0. Instead, 1st and goal and your best defensive player is out.

Injuries and penalties killed the Lions, we gave GB that game. Granted, I also think it was some of the WORST officiating I've seen this season. That roughing the passer on Vanden Bosch was a joke and a half as was the PI call. Oh well, life goes on . . . at least Michigan won and the Wings won.

Ugh, Jim Schwartz needs to seriously kick some butts at practice this week. The stupid post play penalties are killing the Lions. They played decent football yesterday and were certainly in position to compete and win, but the repeated personal fouls are not only stupid, they're losing games.

Seriously, 3 fouls to take us out of TD range, one backs us up out of FG range. I counted 16 points that those penalties likely cost us and we only lost by 14. Stupidity and young players. It was nice seeing Dominic Raiola, a vetern who has been through enough losing to actually be frustrated, berate some of these young guys about their stupid penalties.

Stafford had a heck of a game and hats off to Brees as well, he's just gettin it done this year.

Harrison plays hard. Always has. Besides if Colt had been 1 yard further downfield the hit would have been LEGAL. Runners aren't afforded the same cushion that passers are.

In today's NFL that was an illegal hit either way. Harrison made helmet to helmet contact. He truly is a headhunter. I disagree with most of the new defensive penalties (like how a defensive back gets penalized for looking at the receiver cross-eyed), but eliminating leading with the head has to be done.

You're wrong. They even talked about it during the game. Helmet to helmet is LEGAL on a runner. Mendenhall was smacked helmet to helmet on the goal line stand and there was no penalty because he was a running back. Helmet to helmet is legal on a runner.

Coach Todd Haley fired by Kansas City Chiefs - NFL - Sporting News (http://aol.sportingnews.com/nfl/story/2011-12-12/todd-haley-fired-by-chiefs?icid=maing-grid7%7Cmain5%7Cdl6%7Csec3_lnk1%7C119468)

So they fire Haley, a Belichek cast-off, and promote Romeo, another Belichek cast-off and proven failure? When will people understand that just because a guy is a coordinator under Belichek doesn't mean he is a great coach. He no longer has the luxury of knowing the plays that are going to be called.

Wonder if the Broncos have any magic left for the Patriots. If they go in thinking they will be using gadget run plays they will lose. All they need to do is throw the deep ball on every play and they will win. It doesn't even need to be accurate, the Patriots secondary is THAT bad.

Our defense didn't show up, no argument there.

But I will say, I don't care who you root for the officiating of that game was beyond garbage. If the situation were reversed and the Packers were the ones getting screwed I'd maintain the same view (might feel a little better about it, though ;)). The refs really ruined the integrity of that football game, I think Schwartz had every right to be upset. Granted, we still blew another chance to win the game, but if that Titus Young TD was accurately called, it would've been 48-45 Lions.

Oh well, playoffs baby!

I like the Lions chances against NO. They only got us by 14 points when our defense was depleted, Stafford's finger was still busted, and our only real run option (Smith) was out. As of late, Stafford has been on par with Brees. NO has no defense (although if ours plays like they did Sunday all bets are off). I think we could see a thriller in NO this weekend.

Facing any team of a better than average caliber is troublesome for Denver. Steelers are back on a downward spiral from the last few weeks. I don't think they are going to be the team they were last year in the playoffs. We'll see.

stealthee
01-03-2012, 07:16 PM
Coming in with only 1 loss in their last 7 isn't exactly what I would call a downward spiral.

If it wasn't for the Redman fumbles on Sunday, that game wouldn't have even been close. They beat the Rams handily, (yeah its the Rams, but still they did it without Ben), they deservidly lost to San Fran in a game where Ben was hobbled, they beat Cleveland with Ben coming back into the game hobbled, they beat the piss out of Cincy, they beat KC in a game where yeah they struggled (but KC has shown what their D can do), and they beat Cincy in a good game. The week prior to that was their loss to Baltimore, that I put squarely on the shoulders of LeBeau for running prevent which allowed the Ravens to drive down the field and score the go ahead late in the game. If it weren't for that Pittsburgh would be the #1 seed and sitting at home this weekend.

Now mind you, I am not saying they are coming in hot either. They are beat up, but the Steelers are a very tough team that likes to play when they are banged up.

I don't see an issue with Denver, and the following week is a toss up. We already beat New England, and I just don't see Baltimore beating us three times. Who knows, this is why they play the game.

I can't even tell if this was a troll post. The last game the Lions played against the Packers was our second string team for the most part (ie. Defense? no Matthews playing). Also, you're telling me that Brees > Flynn? What insight! Who'd have guessed that a Super Bowl winning veteran QB would be better than our backup QB who has started what?...2, maybe 3 games. And Flynn has nothing to do with this game (as his team, the Packers aren't even playing, and he's a backup). More than likely, will have nothing to do with the Brees the rest of the year, much less tomorrow. As far as the Bears go, they never had a chance.

Worst officiating I have seen all season. Harrison was held on multiple plays. Taylor got held so bad on the one TeBlow scramble he could have had the receiver arrested for assault. Taylor was afraid to even touch a receiver because everytime he did he was flagged. And the utter BULLSHIT roughing the passer call on Harrison. The only reason a flag was thrown was because it was #92.

On top of all that, the loss of all the starters killed us. Legusrkey fucked us hardcore at center, then losing Keisel and Hampton early made it hard. Mundy stepped up, just like I thought he would.

recently? dungee's tragedy was a few years ago... it's been going on for a while.

I read an account of this in the regional rag that pissed me off a wee bit; actually, more than a bit - I forgot to see what the feed was.

I little tid-bit I neither saw nor heard elsewhere, and I frankly don't know why they did what they did.

Yea, and to a lesser degree ... you have Andy Reid's kids in and out of the paper for drugs.

On a somewhat related note, I wonder if McNabb understands why the game ended with Tebow's touch down pass in OT.

As for this coming Sunday ... you know God loves Tom Brady too :)

I retrieved the newspaper to see that the story I read was an AP feed - it included, as the very last sentence in the article, this:

"Michael Philben is the second-oldest of six children to Joe Philben and his wife, Diane. He was sentenced to six months in jail in 2009 after he was convicted of sexually assaulting two young girls."

Struck me as mighty odd, and pretty damned gratuitous, given the circumstances.

Its entirely possible, and would love to see, all the underdogs win this weekend. Especially considering that defenses and running games usually win.

Giants are dangerous and coming on strong when they need to; they played the Pack well in their last meeting despite loss. Harbaugh has the 49ers playing at a high level on both sides of the ball; while the Saints looked "human" in their win over the Lions, basically winning a shoot out with gutsy calls from Sean Payton. Texans were very impressive in their win last week (defense and run); while Ravens have done great but are inconsistent. We all know what Tebow did to the #1 ranked defense as unorthodox as he is; if they can keep Brady on the sidelines and on his back, and with a little help from the man upstairs ;)

I would definitely take all the point spreads.

Maybe people will shut the fuck up about Tebow now? His game against Pittsburgh was an anomaly. He is not a quarterback, he will never get any better at the quarterback position. If he isn't willing to change poistions he will be joining all the other former UF qb's as analysts on the various networks.

Giants played their hearts out and beat us outright. We'll be back next year! Overall a very young team and a phenomenal QB, we have. :)

Also, at least we didn't lose to the Denver Tebows in the playoffs. Regardless of which Penn team you hop on next year, we'll be ready to whoop that ass...again. :p

sucks to be you. out of the 4 remaining teams, i only hate the pats. i'm not a fan of the other 3 per say....but i'm ok with them being in the super bowl. either way though, NFC will win. i called that months ago, and i stand by it. as much as i think it'd be cool to see the ravens get another championship, odds are that the giants get a 4th, or possibly that the niners tie the steelers. and i'll probably root for the ravens (or god forbid anyone playing AGAINST the patsies). so many steelers fans EVERYWHERE, next to no ravens fans--and that makes me like cheering for them.

....plus their uniforms are purple. :p

Slightly misleading to brag up the pro bowls. 07 he replaced Phillip Rivers, who was injured. In 10 he again replaced an injured Philip Rivers, but that came after Roethlisberger and Carson Palmer both declined.

It's really disheartening after his amazing rookie season, but I doubt it ever happens for him, at this point. :(

It's just mind blowing the way ESPN has convinced everyone that he sucks. He had a fucking 98.6 QB rating before he got hurt in 2010. He still averages 5 yards a carry.

I don't disagree with most of the ratings, except Carson Palmer as an A. That's beyond egregious.

As for VY, there was so much hype out of college, the phenomenal rookie season, and then just flat. A good bit of the "flat" was out of his control, though. If we're going to give Bradford a break... To me, Sam is the biggest bust ever(hard for me to call him a bust as I never thought he was that good anyway). Why they spent so much money on him is beyond me. He's an injury magnet. Stafford has been hurt a lot as well, but when he plays he's at least pretty darn good.

This is an important year for the future of B12 QB's. RG3 needs to do well and Tannehill needs to be drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round... NOT the top 10. How the F he has been elevated to a top 10 pick is completely beyond me. You seen his stat line against Texas, lately?

Statistically, he's not even a top 50 college QB from last season, but against the only defenses he played with a pulse:

OU: 32/64 (50%) for 379 yds, 2 TD 3 INT 100.7 RTNG
Texas: 20/49 (40.8%) for 224 yds, 2 TD 3 INT 80.4 RTNG
