I just finished up one side of my Door sill design and can't keep it to myself. Hope you don't think it's too much. LMK

I could probably get you the sill plates and the lights. But, it really takes them being done ON the car to make sure the holes in the body are in the correct spot. There is no room for error. You have to cut out part of the car sill area to mount the light inside the body.
When I do the driver's side, I'll take some pics to show what you have to do.

The first thing I did was to tape off both the stock door sill and custom sill. I then reinstalled both sills (I cut out the tape on the 3 and the T) and put a light coat of paint over both of them to use as a guide when I cut the body of the car and the stock door sill.
I then uses a straight edge and marked on the stock sill where the outside edge of the hole should be cut. I then used a cutting wheel and cut out the hole leaving it on the small side (it's easier to trim the hole bigger with a box knife than to make it too big, coz you can't add to it).

I then used the hole in the factory sill to mark the hole in the body and cut it with a cutting wheel.

I cleaned a 19 inch flexible light strip and the inside of the body with brake cleaner, removing any dust and debris. The light was attached using 2-sided tape to the upper part of the body.

I then wired the light bar into the courtesy lights that are located near your feet by the door. When you wire the LED's in you have to make sure it's wired pos. to pos. and neg. to neg. or the LED's won't work.

I removed my glovebox to get the light out. My hands are too big to get into alot of places under the dash area. And since I am getting ready to strip the interior for a complete makeover, it was an easy decision to pull it.

I think that's it, if I'm remembering everything.

BTW, I talked to my Door Sill guy and if I got enough interest, I could come up with some more sills.

Being that these chassis' are unibody, I'm not so sure the F&F effect is worth comprimising the sill area/torque-box section's integrity. This might have saved you some time & value of your ride Light TapeŽ - Bring your imagination to light! (http://www.lighttape.com/default.asp)

Wow, that is probably some of the coolest stuff I have ever seen lol. Great link!

This is a very cool idea too, I always smash my feet off the sills of my car without adequate light being there.

I am new to the board and I am $$$pits supply source. Let mw know if you want a set of these door sills and I can mail them to you for 100.00 for a set. that includes shipping in the United States. Look forward to hearing from you.

PS: these are made out of 3/16 thick 304 stainless so there is no scuffing and you can polish them out to your desired finish.

stainless, not aluminum? too bad. i need black ones; and powder-coating/paint just isn't going to cut it.

I understand. These sills are really cool looking when polished to a hazy finish.

That looks really cool. If there was a way to avoid having to cut into the body, I would be all for this. I couldn't see that other suggestion in that link, so I will have to come back to this.

One other thing that I have not looked into but might work is GLOW TAPE. The only thing about glow tape is there are limited colors. something to think about tho. Either way, right now I have mounted my sills on top of the factory sills and it don't look bad. I'm think about cutting the factory sill out so that my sill will sit down flush and then the cut out area will be the color of my car.

That looks really cool and has some practical purpose too. If it wasn't for cutting the body, I'd be in for it.

Electroluminescent lighting naturally breaks down with sun light (UV). So in theory you could only use them during the night if you want them to last.

I never even thought of that. I'm now leveled off on JUST body color sills, I haven't heard of too many night time car shows in my area lol. I think making the lower kick panels out of carbon, cutting out a 3/S logo and filling them with some LED's and hazed Plexiglas of colored choice would be pretty awesome too.

I didn't do it for car shows. I just did it coz I'd never seen anyone else do it and HOPED it would look good. I think it did. :)

Lol, I didn't mean to come off as if it didn't look good. I think it looks VERY good, and very unique. It's just a shame to have to cut into the rocker. Perhaps welding in a box would retain the stiffness of them?

Maybe on a car pushin' alot of HP it COULD possibly cause a problem. But, I don't think on a stock SL it will. The hole looks alot bigger in the pic than it does in person. The hole is only about 1 1/4 x 16. If I start noticing my sill plates bowing, I'll definately let you know.

I would venture to say you wont have any structural problems. At least I hope not......

Hmm, I have been working on a similar project (as I also have never seen this done, until now I suppose) but didn't want to cut the body to make it happen. If others are interested, you could look into electroluminescent tape (very thin, not even noticeable). The only problem I'm having with mine prior to finishing it is the purity in the color (looks like I'm going to have get a filter to 'richen' the color a bit); here are some pics I took today of mine during a mock-up:

Off:

And, here it is with the EL tape on, I want it it be basically as red as the door light is when you open the door and as you can see it is almost white with a pinkish hue. Perhaps it is wishful thinking with something this thin but I've never used this stuff before so I'm not sure what to think:

Nice work $$$Pit, not trying to thread-jack, I honestly didn't know you had already done it until today when I was searching for something else (I started looking to do this myself back in October); just wanted to offer an alternative to others looking to do the same thing. I know Primus101 kinda already mentioned this method on the first page (I went to a different website though) but I've been working on it for a little while trying to get things right.
