So I have a 91 TT that spun a bearing back in Dec, 2011. I did what most people do and started to part the car out. During that time I also bought a 93 RT/TT that had an engine problem. Well the plan was to make one good out of 2 bad. Well nothing ever goes as planned. I was faced with divorce, followed(in the same week) by Jail time, loss of employment, and finally left with out a house or car. Well thanks to amazing friends... One such friend ABM stuck a deal with me and he was awarded two broken 3s's for one running driving BMW(banzai Bimmer). None of what I have now could have been possible with out him. That is a debt I don't know if I will ever be able to repay. But I will always try.

Sooo fast forward, I am now in the process of putting back together the last couple pieces of a life I once had. So now for some Technical questions... It is a 91TT, I will be putting a new heart into her out of a 94 Vr4. So I know the 91 has a cas sensor, the 94 does not. Stealth 316 used to have a write up which is no longer available. I wanna know if anyone has ever done the swap with out having to swap the whole engine harness over? I know there is a way you can wire it up, but it causes latencies with the computer... That I am ok with because I will be able to do away with those via a flash ecu.

So main question being what wires need to be wired in where? Has anyone done this that maybe took pictures?

Now picture time for me... How the car sits as of now.

You can put the 91 CAS in the 94 rear head without any issues. Just remove the "plug" on the head.

Interesting Stealthee, no one has ever mentioned that method.

Nate, when I first got the car it was pink. Got to close the first time I buffed it and went down to the primer, luckily it was the a pillar piece so i was able to source another thanks to CheckeredVr4.

Yeah, run it like you would the normal 91. I am going the other way around, where I have 1st gen heads and 2nd gen wiring harness... thats when you have to do wiring.

Thanks for the help guys.. If it's that simple then awesome!

Next Friday I should be making the last installment on the engine, ordering a downpipe for the cat back I have.

I hope your new engine works well :)

Me too buddy, it's a jdm engine with 30k on the clock out of another stl/Peoria members VR4.. Do should do well. At the moment I'm only pushing to make this car a DD 9b car. So maintance is top priority. I want the car to be tip top when I put it on the road this time around.

List goes as follows

Engine and (management(needed)+60k parts
2gen brakes(needed)
New rotors and pads( needed)
Brake lines(needed)
Exhaust(on order)
Wheels and tires(in the making)
Oil cooler(needed) this is a big one.I'm looking possibly to do front mount.
Cooling( needed).

After the next two weeks I should have half that list marked off.

With a JDM engine, plan on tearing it down to clean up and degunk the pistons' oil control rings and install new valve stem seals unless you want a smoke show.

The ones I've seen look like they barely get an oil change in 30k-40k mileage claim. VSS are unrelated to the lack of oil changes, but they are likely dried out and need changed so might as well do it now before installing.

I believe all that foot work was done before me, the car was in a vr4 for a while. But I will more then likely be doing the VSS just for safe measure.

Never assume it has been done. Until you've got that B' opened up its questionable.

RA has some specials on VSS ATM. Check it out:

Seeing as the engine is coming from a member who's word I don't think I could ever doubt. I think I'm making the best and most logical purchase.

Thanks for the link! I may just order me some of that!

So bumping it up, lets talk tires. Car will be street driven mainly in the spring/summer months and a little into fall(not big on snow driving). But also intend on doing a good amount of autox when the opportunity arises. So tire recommendations? Also I will be rolling with an 18x9 wheel, what is the best size tire to roll with?

Also, anybody had any long term experience with this downpipe? 91 99 3000gt VR 4 Stealth Turbo Exhaust Header Down Pipe Stainless Steel Catback | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/91-99-3000GT-VR-4-STEALTH-TURBO-EXHAUST-HEADER-DOWN-PIPE-STAINLESS-STEEL-CATBACK-/281181985235?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A1994%7CMake%3ADodge%7CModel%3AStealth&hash=item4177c099d3&vxp=mtr)

Seems to be similar to the Megan's racing one I had before, but not sure if exactly it.. Better to run one with a flex section?

With a 9" wide wheel you probably want 265's or 275's on the width. I had 245's on my 9" wide Villains and they were at the point where they were almost stretched.

As for brand, better off getting an answer from those who auto-x. I just run General Altimax RT43 on my Grand Prix and they are a good tire, with decent grip but I don't know how they would fare in an auto-x setting. They are great for DD duties though.

Those rt43'vs s are a great touring tire. I wouldn't race on them, I expect they would chunk and fall apart quickly. Boomer i will send you a pm with tire info tonight.

I had a 1G front precat next to a 2G precat a while back and the 1G front was about a half inch shorter than the 2G front precat.

Well I have both rear and front for a 1g on the car, and the 94tt engine will have its precats as well. So guess I just need to pick.

You should hit up Todd as he has a decent one available. The pre-cat eliminators on his car required that we re-use the downpipe that was already on his car, which means he has a perfectly good extra.

Re:tires I'm a big fan of Nitto Nt555 for street tires. Have had them on my VR4 in a couple sizes and my wife's 540.

Good grip, okay wear, quiet and well-priced. Good all around performance street tire IMHO.

Thanks Levi, I will deff give him a call. I would much rather give monies to local/3s people then to someone on Ebay.

they are good summer tires, just keep in mind they are surprising bad for a winter tire. Not sure if boomer is going to have dedicated winter tires.

So got a couple things ordered over the weekend. Now I am going to try and tackle the Oil cooler situation. My stock one was fragged from the Spun bearing. The new engine won't come with one. I am ok with running a stock Core, but I don't want it in the stock mounting area. I would like to switch to Front mount. Post up what pics you have of you're FMOC set up.

Next up, the engine I purchased was just plan ugly and the turbos are bunk.. Swapped them out for some lower mileage 9b's...But that could very well change in the next week or so.

What brand of front manifold is that on the new engine?

Boomer3000
09-08-2015, 08:30 PM
Xo2 Racing was on the tag, to be honest they are kinda shit in quality. I imagine I will be swapping them before long. But they came with the engine so I'm not gonna complain.

Funny thing about that company, they make some wild aftermarket shit for our cars... Shitty body kit mostly. But their interior door panels deff intrigue me.

Thanks for the information. Never seen a front manifold that routes the pipes like yours, thats what triggered my curiosity.
