Yup no limit. Want a 3.5 stroker with DR750s or 16g's, 760cc injectors and have it run like stock, sounds good to me

The LC1s have a serial output that evoscan can be configured to use if you have a serial input on your laptop. USB converters are an option too.

The only draw back is then you'd have to have 2 cables connected to the laptop instead of one.

I don't have your excell spreadsheet in front of me, but I could have sworn I saw that the montero ecu did still have the map sensor input. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

The only thing about fine tuning a 3.5 or even a car with cams is tweaking the fuel trim tables for the larger airflow. I know gate found these tables in the 94 rom. I haven't even started looking for them in the 99.

Great info. Soooo, who's going to build me one and teach me how to use it?

There is a wayyyyyyy out there potential limit, depending on fuel. I've heard of people using 2150cc injectors on an evo with stock ECU, but only on e85. A local club member tried to do pump gas (93) with the 2150s and it would not idle correctly. However, there are a few cars running 1350s on pure 93 octane.

So there's a theoretical limit to it, but I doubt 99.9999% of us would ever encounter it.

I mean, would it be possible to go full TD05 and 720 or larger injectors while still being able to tune properly?
On a fully tunable ecu, you pretty much have an aem ems. I tune my dsm with custom ecu code and have run 1600's on the stock computer at 30+psi, with launch control, nlts, native wideband, even run speed density on the stocker. This is huge.

After you get this going on your stealth, you know where you'll be next, right

But the EVO / 01-03 CPU is very different from the 99 VR4 (it would be like comparing an Intel and PowerPC CPU). The code would have to be entirely rewritten for the newer ECU, something I am not about to do (this is a 128K ROM File with almost 200,000 lines of machine code).

Part 2 - I already have written Big Maps into the ROM - It is just not publicly available until I am done testing. Speed Density is another re-write as well as no lift to shift, etc, etc. Both of these will be "down the road" as this is not as easy as it seems. Our ROM does not have as much free space as the EVO ROM and there is the issue of our cars not having a “working” MAP sensor input or a “clutch pedal” input to the ECU.

Ballpark - $250.00 for the conversion harness. It will not matter the year for pricing. It will include the OBDII connector for 1 Gen cars (this is how you data log and send the programming) and the reflash connector for both 1 Gen and 2 Gen (This really should be called the reflash "enable" or reflash "voltage" connector because it only supplies the reflash voltage for the ECU to accept the programming sent over the OBDII port). Still cheaper than a 3 Gen e-Manage Ultimate plug-n-play adapter from any one that makes one . . .

When the harness is publicly available, some one will post where you can get your very own.

The only other cost will be the custom modified ECU as there are no "plug and play" ECU's besides the 99 VR4 ECU. Sorry. Pricing on the modifications to your ECU and/or a pre-modified ECU are still in development because the two people who can do this (Jeff and I) have day jobs and limited amount of resources (both time and money) to buy and test the ECU's. I personally have bought over six different ECU's out of pocket for testing and Jeff has bought his fair share as well.

While there are quite a few ECU's that share commonalities with the 99 VR4 ECU, there are many surface mount component differences and this takes time to sort out. Each ECU MUST be separately qualified and then a list of changes compiled for modification. So in the beginning, don't expect to just buy any Montero or Diamante ECU and have it modified.

When the ECU is figured out, some one will post where you can buy one or send it in to be modified.

Thank you Aaron. I have spoken at great length on whether or not this should be an “open source” project with all of the key players and even some others. In the end it was decided that for now, this will not be open source. Fist off there is a great deal of complexity and specialized tools and skill sets which are required for the hardware and software (ROM) modifications. This has resulted in a lot of reading, learning, and out of pocket expenses for Jeff and I. Secondly this is far beyond the scope of the average hobbyist. Replacing failed capacitors on a 2 Gen ECU pales in comparison to the skill required for even the simplest hardware modifications on a modern surface mount ECU. You wouldn’t attempt to replace the chipset on your computer motherboard, would you? You would just buy another, right? If the SATA controller took a dive on your motherboard you would just buy another, rather than replacing the surface mount IC, right? Well this is why the hardware modifications are such an issue. And of course there are numerous other reasons why that I won’t go into here. For now everyone must be patient.
